Blur the boundaries between the histories and practices of analogue photography and painting into a realm where the pixel levels the playing field for all kinds of image data. Play on the essence of the digital image as a grid of data points. In this series I explore the possibilities of the pixel as both medium and metaphor. Construction Sites phase II. Helma Sawatzky is an artist. In 1991, she completed a Bachelor of Music degree in her country of birth, the. In May 2009, Sawatzky completed a BFA in Photography at the Emily Carr University of Art Design in. She is currently pursuing graduate studies at the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby BC Canada. In her years as a singer-songwriter and performing artist, Sawatzky recorded three albums. 2008 helma sawatzky updated in june 2010.

SCATTER PLOTS (2008 - 2009). Scatter Plots: Bear Creek Park C-print mounted on aluminum dibond 36 x36 inches. The Scatter Plots series stages its smallest unit, the pixel, as both medium and metaphor. The pixel traps many binary motions: it simultaneously constructs and deconstructs, it renders detail and abstracts image information, it represents ‘reality’ and conjures up illusions.
