Helping Kids in Ecuador. It all began. with a jar. on the counter. of a restaurant in Salinas, Ecuador, May 2011. That jar had a picture of a little girl.that little girl needed medical help. So began the first HKIE fundraiser that Memorial Day. No one attending was aware there was to be a fundraiser in addition to the traditional potluck.but when the story was told, everyone gave generously and enough money was raised for Carolina's first operation. Over the next year and a half HKIE helped 29 children.
