Your henna stain can last one to two weeks with the proper care, here are some tips :. Leave the paste on your skin as long as possible, even after it dries. If you can leave it on for at least two hours, you will get a decent stain. (Four to eight hours is recommended, and overnight is better, see below for more details). Tips for a darker stain. Henna is a natural dye derived from the plant lawsonia inermis. Lawsonia inermis produces a burgundy dye molecule, lawsone. This molecule has an affinity for bonding with protein, and thus has been used to dye skin, hair and fingernails. The stains last for about 1 to 3 weeks depending on area of the body that it is applied on. The palms of the hands stain the darkest. The henna will last until the skin that it dyes ex-foliates.
