Submitting to journals: the Jo Bell method. June 14, 2016. This is what I am doing wrong. In a nutshell. I am too precious about my short stories. I stand over them like the anxious mother at the school gate, fussing and petting over them. I need to let go. I need to submit. Great post here from Bell jar blog. The Bell Jar: Jo Bell's blog. 1,566 more words. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). Click to share on Google (Opens in new window). First Time at an RNA Conference – a post for Newbies. July 12, 2016. I am just back from my first ever RNA Conference and I can’t believe what an amazing time I had. So, whilst I can still remember it all, I am jotting down a few reminders. Can you go if you’ve never met anyone before? The RNA have a First Timers group, organised by Kate Thompson who, prior to the event sends welcome emails and organises a kitchen party on the first night. In other words, they look after you! But that’s fine, becau...

Is there a dead body in your novel? 8211; 5 resources to help you to be authentic in your romance writing. July 17, 2016. July 15, 2016. One minute I was writing about a romance, the next a dead body fell out of a wardrobe! That’s the trouble when you are a pantster, rather than a plotter – the unexpected happens. My characters were misbehaving! But, the crucial thing is, how do I keep it authentic? And, what resources can I find online, or in a book that will keep the Police investigation accurate?

The Riddle of Writing: August 2014
http://deborahswift.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
The Riddle of Writing. Tuesday, 26 August 2014. The Attraction of the Highwayman Image - with Henriette Gyland. Both Henriette Gyland and I have new books out about a female highwayman. Fascinated by finding this out, I invited Henri to come and enlighten us about her novel. Henri's novel is called The Highwayman's Daughter. Did you base The Highwayman's Daughter on a particular highwayman? Base it on a particular highwayman – or a conglomeration of several – without even realising it! Even if the wound ...

The Heroine Addicts: October 2013
http://theheroineaddicts.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 31, 2013. My son is very excited about Hallowe'en this year. He's quite a sensitive soul and last year he was a bit worried by the holiday: all the fake blood, the skeletons, the pumpkins carved into leering faces. It was too scary for him. He dressed up as a cat and he wanted to carve our pumpkin into Peso, the medic penguin from The Octonauts, who is kind and helpful. By MJ Carey, a zombie story with a difference, and although it's got plenty of gore and thrills, it's the character an...

#1stdraftdiary and #Nanowrimo Week 2 – Susannah Branson
https://susannahbranson.wordpress.com/2016/07/15/1stdraftdiary-and-nanowrimo-week-2
1stdraftdiary and #Nanowrimo Week 2. July 15, 2016. July 16, 2016. That is the only way to describe my word count this last week. Not even small thongs, but huge enormous Bridget Jones type pants. Knickers. Belly warmers. Call them what you will. My word count was …228 words! 228 Yup, I hang my head in shame. It happens. Or doesn’t happen. However the things that I did instead were very useful and important, so that’s my excuse. It was an extremely useful weekend, better than getting words on a page.

CARA COOOPER'S BLOG - THANK YOU FOR VISITING. Welcome to my blog on writing, reading and living in London . Thursday, 13 December 2012. Choc Lit - a fabulous 'new' publisher of fiction. Last night I went to the launch of 'Up Close' a romantic suspense by Henriette Gyland. Set in Norfolk, with a delicious old flame who may not be all he seems, this is mystery at its chilling best. Henri is one of publisher Choc Lit's. Every time I'm at an airport I check out the bookstands and Choc Lit. Who hosted last ni...

#1stdraftdiary and Nanowrimo – Susannah Branson
https://susannahbranson.wordpress.com/2016/07/03/1stdraftdiary-and-nanowrimo
July 3, 2016. Elizabeth Rose Murray (Caramel Hearts and The Book of Learning) has described how she flies through her first draft at breakneck speed, you can read about it here. So a few writers who have heard about it are also trying to log their #1stdraftdiaries . Try twitter for more information. So, since I also wanted to join in with Nanowrimo, (National novel writing month – write 50k words in 30 days), I thought this would be a fantastic opportunity to also keep a #1stdraftdiary. It’s hardly...

#1stdraftdiary – end of week one – Susannah Branson
https://susannahbranson.wordpress.com/2016/07/11/1stdraftdiary-end-of-week-one
1stdraftdiary – end of week one. July 11, 2016. Elizabeth Gilbert is still my hero. You don’t come up with an idea, the idea seeks you out! The week started out quite slowly as I spent too much time plotting and not enough time writing, but by Days 4 -7 I had finally cracked it and learnt something intrinsic about my writing; it has a life of its own. And now I can really see where it’s heading. The backstory is about the events that happened that summer when the hero/heroine met, and events that had hap...
