Living in and caring for a Victorian Villa. Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Winter Blooms to Chase the Blues. Though this winter is not nearly as cold as last, I made sure that I would have some greenery and blooms throughout the 'dreaded season', starting with some delicate and fragrant paper whites. They were started a week before Christmas in a variety of glass vases. To my surprise, they grew tall and strong - three feet in some cases. The perfume of the hyacinth filled the library. And then there's my u...

The Dusty Victorian: Parlour Window - Completely Restored
http://thedustyvictorian.blogspot.com/2015/08/parlour-window-completely-restored.html
Living in and caring for a Victorian Villa. Saturday, August 1, 2015. Parlour Window - Completely Restored. When one owns an antique home, one needs patience. Sometimes a project needs a few years to be completed. The parlour window - aka my studio window - is an example. In June 2011, I did a quick painting and glazing job, just to protect the wood and make it less draughty until I could get to it and do a proper restoration. Four seasons later and it's done. The new wood windows were re-installed in 20...

The Dusty Victorian: Veranda - Painting Completed
http://thedustyvictorian.blogspot.com/2015/07/veranda-painting-completed.html
Living in and caring for a Victorian Villa. Sunday, July 19, 2015. Veranda - Painting Completed. I felt like cracking a bottle of Moet et Chandon, but I will do that in autumn when everything else I want to do this season is completed. Below are a few 'before and after' shots of the front veranda. I've said it before, but working on a scaffold as opposed to a ladder makes a world of difference. So the two front sections are painted. And the section above the stairs was done last season. Thank you so much...

The Dusty Victorian: August 2015
http://thedustyvictorian.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Living in and caring for a Victorian Villa. Monday, August 31, 2015. THE DV'S BACK PATIO. The summer of 2015 in our area has been perfect for my garden's health and growth. Several days of beautiful sun followed by a day or two of heavy rain seems to have been what my garden needed to produce its bounty of fruits, vegetables and flowers. Every spring I add to the earth, the compost from my kitchen waste, but this spring, I sprinkled a. 50-pound bag of compost from Cedar Row Farm. It made a huge difference.

Living in and caring for a Victorian Villa. Monday, July 21, 2014. Come for a Bike Ride in my Neighbourhood. Weather permitting, I've been starting my day with a bike ride. I'm usually out by 7:30 am, which I think is the best time. St Marys is in a valley so it's quite hilly. During my 40 minute ride, I get a good cardio workout and the best scenery. Hop on my handlebars and let's go! The nature trail near my home is covered by a thick canopy of leaves and leads to. Coming back towards the river Thames ...
