A Passage To Now: Story Give-A-Way
http://alanchinwriter.blogspot.com/2015/05/story-give-way.html
Tuesday, May 12, 2015. I’ve completed a new short story that I’m giving away to anyone interested. This ten page tale deals with the topic of parents who are clueless that their kid is gay, and inadvertently harm their loved ones through their obvious homophobia. It’s a gritty read, not for the faint of heart, but I feel the ending is uplifting. I’m considering writing a series of short stories along this same theme, so I would love feedback on the story. A Passage To Now: Writing Tip: “It’s Real” or “It’s Cool” is no reason to include it
http://alanchinwriter.blogspot.com/2015/05/writing-tip-its-real-or-its-cool-is-no.html
Thursday, May 7, 2015. Writing Tip: “It’s Real” or “It’s Cool” is no reason to include it. To heighten the reader’s investment, every scene and every detail ideally should change or affect the central driving question that forms the backbone of the story. The two reasons that I’ve noticed that writers (and I do it myself) drift away from the core problem is:. A story is about x, where "x" equals compelling characters and a central problem/question that propels us through the entire narrative. Anythin...

A Passage To Now: December 2014
http://alanchinwriter.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 29, 2014. End of the Afganistan War, and our Predatory Economy. Yesterday, the US federal government declared an end to the thirteen-year-old war in Afghanistan. I hate to be a nay-sayer, but I’ll bet that the military action in the Middle East will continue, and within a few years America will be at war again. I’ve read estimates that as many as 1.5 million Muslims were killed due to America’s actions in Afghanistan and Iraq, although I find that number hard to believe. Public works wer...

A Passage To Now: February 2015
http://alanchinwriter.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. Coming Home Is Not Easy. Herman and I arrived home a week ago, ending a three-month trek through SE Asia, where we visited Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), Vietnam, and Singapore. After a week of being home, we are still adjusting. It’s more than simply recovering from jetlag. It’s crawling back into the old routines. Yesterday, Herman and I joined friends for a morning of tennis. We played several sets, and to my great surprise, our three-month absence from the game had no eff...
