scattered thoughts – hermeneuts
https://hermeneuts.wordpress.com/author/dangerandgrace
For those who receive and give gospel. August 13, 2016. Preaching Politics and Revelation (Not in that Order). So I find myself asking, why aren’t we preaching more Revelation? Revelation begins with Jesus. In fact a picture of Jesus like we have never seen before. And then, Revelation takes us to church. This is important for the Gospel is not for individuals. The Gospel is for a people. The Gospel is always an act of community, never a private exercise, always a political exercise. August 4, 2016.

Every Sermon Needs a Deliverer – hermeneuts
https://hermeneuts.wordpress.com/2015/07/24/every-sermon-needs-a-deliverer
For those who receive and give gospel. July 24, 2015. Every Sermon Needs a Deliverer. We tend to think we can read texts concerning the Exodus safely, from a distance, because they were written about a past event in history and about a specific group of people. We have not been enslaved, we have not been forced to make bricks without straw nor do we wear the scars of slave camp. Yet, the text speaks clearly; there is only one means of rescue. Preacher as Fellow Adventurer – hermeneuts
https://hermeneuts.wordpress.com/2015/07/21/preacher-as-fellow-adventurer
For those who receive and give gospel. July 21, 2015. Preacher as Fellow Adventurer. Preaching is not a side note to real life. It is not helpful words for those who are spiritually inclined. It is not someone who knows much standing before those who know less in order to tell them what they are unable to figure out on their own. Preaching is an invitation to a reality that is often overlooked for things louder and more profitable. This entry was tagged adventure. Every Sermon Needs a Deliverer →. Build ...

If you were giggling friends, or lost in your own thoughts, or bumbling along with picnic and swimming gear on the path to Grassy Point, you might not ever even see my tree. It was off to the right in a thicket with a lot of other pine trees to be sure. But one had ‘welcome’ spewing from every branch. At some point I began to invite my friends in. My girlfriends and I would talk of boys and movie stars, gossip about other girls, imagine how it would be when we really grew up. We would talk about ...In it...

Peace I ask of thee, O River. Peace, Peace, Peace. When I learn to live serenely. From the hills I gather courage. Vision of the day to be. Strength to lead and faith to follow. All are given unto me. Peace, I ask of thee, O River. Peace, Peace, Peace. This day Mullet Bay is placid, the glassy ripples mesmerizing as we drink our coffee by the shore. Another day the white caps will be churning. Boats will be bobbing. Storm will be brewing. Each day a mystery on The River. Nighttime comes. Black and de...
I KILLED A FROG | Muckets and Tuppies

I KILLED A FROG. My Dad was a minister and a chaplain in World War II. His first charge after the war was a small town in the Mohawk Valley, Frankfort, New York. We lived there for 5 years. This afternoon I drove through Frankfort, giggling happily as I passed by places of memory. The parsonage was an old Italianate house with asbestos shingles. And ugly! I gave up my life of crime.). I also had the lead in the fifth grade play. I was a clothespin. Would it squish if I stepped on it? I did It did. I̵...

8220;Boy, That God is some artist! 8221; (quote from a roadtrip). This last weekend my favorite traveling companion and I took an impromptu trip to Virginia, to visit a potter that makes exquisite wares. But the highlights of the trip were the last vestiges of colour as we traveled through the Poconos, the Skyline Drive into the Blue Ridge Mountains and then back to our beautiful New York State! Do you suppose God is an ‘artist with a magic brush’ though? October 29, 2014 at 2:04 pm. You are commenting u...

O Prednisone, O Prednisone, how lovely are thee, Prednisone (sung to tune of O Christmas Tree). Final diagnosis: exacerbation of spinal stenosis (which I have had for some time), affecting the nerves in my legs. Plan: follow up with my doctor within the week for referral to a neurologist, use walker, refrain from any big jaunts by myself. Prognosis: good. Medication prescribed: PREDNISONE for five days. Yeah! BECAUSE ON MONDAY I PROBABLY WILL COLLAPSE. So I’d better make hay while the sun shines. Kristen...

We had seen his name engraved on the Pilgrims Monument in Plymouth and on Plymouth Rock. We knew he had been a carpenter, had married twice, and had come to America for economic reasons, not for religious reasons. It was thought they had come from Bristol, England. THE BOOK VERIFIED THIS! O Lord our God and heavenly Father, which of thy unspeakable love for us has provided meate and drinke for the nourishment of our weake bodies. Grant. HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE. November 25, 2014 at 3:12 am. You are ...

GIVING TUESDAY | Muckets and Tuppies
https://gallen607.wordpress.com/2014/12/13/giving-tuesday
This year it fell on December 2, 2014. I never wanted another kitten after M’lady died . (If you haven’t read the blogs about her you really should to bring you up to speed.) I expressed this to everybody! It would be too hard to potentially lose another cat. There would never be as perfect a kitten as she. I didn’t have the energy and was too sad to even think about it. But then Fate intervened. I will give her love. She will give me joy. What can I tell you about Lady Lucy, aka Lucy, aka Monkey? She lo...

Hermeneutism | theology, fashion, gender, and politics
Skip to main content. Skip to secondary content. Theology, fashion, gender, and politics. The End of the Story. April 14, 2011. Don’t worry. It’s all going to be okay. Innately, we humans are drawn to narratives in which love conquers all and, after a long battle, evil is finally defeated. This basic arc is echoed all through human history in everything from. To the Christian scriptures. I would argue, in fact, that far from advocating a world without true right or wrong, that. We talk about God and sin ...
Filosofando sobre a vida
Matters of Interpretation | Read something. Think about it. Talk about it. Write. Not necessarily in that order.
Read something. Think about it. Talk about it. Write. Not necessarily in that order. January 11, 2017. I realized recently that I have never heard anyone insist on the “literal truth” of a parable. I have never heard anyone, or heard of anyone, who insists that the prodigal son was a single, physical individual. I don’t think anyone has tried to find archaeological evidence of the inn to which the Good Samaritan brought the man who fell among thieves going down from Jerusalem to Jericho. January 9, 2017.
hermeneuts – for those who receive and give gospel
For those who receive and give gospel. March 24, 2018. Barbara Brown Taylor and John the Baptist. At this point, my fascination with John the Baptist is no surprise to anyone who reads this blog. Perhaps that is why I want to feature Barbara Brown Taylor’s sermon Wherever the Way May Lead. If you desire to read the sermon in its entirety, I recommend you purchase. Home By Another Way. Hermeneuttinen kehä Saaristomerellä
Keskiviikko 21. tammikuuta 2015. Kävelyllä Turussa, Osa I. Kaikenlaisten kiireiden lomassa olen kuljetellut jälkikasvua hoitoon Turun suunnalle ja siinä ohessa on tarjoutunut kaivattuja, joutilaita hetkiä kaupungilla kiertelyyn.

Ohjelman pelaajana, vaikka yri...

hermen's happenings
Monday, February 20, 2012. Almost a Year Later. So, it has been almost a year since I have blogged. We have had lots of excitement and craziness in our lives. In April, my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a huge lump on her left breast about 7 cm. Mark and I helped her and my dad move up to. To be closer to my Mom. Mark agreed that it was a good time. So we found a beautiful house in. That wasn't very much more than what we were spending in. In August, we received a nice surprise. We fou...
