http://viennacalled.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Wiener Schnitzel and Grüner Veltliner. Our Life in Vienna, Austria. Saturday, August 17, 2013. Auf Wiedersehen, Wien! Three years and one month. Three years felt. Like it would be a long time when we arrived in mid-July 2010 but now that three years has passed, it hardly seems possible we've lived in Vienna for three years. But today we leave, en route back to Washington, DC. Exit here for the Rathaus. Rathaus on a snowy, wintry day. Hallstatt. Arguably the most beautiful town in Austria. Mohr im Hemd": ...

Wiener Schnitzel and Grüner Veltliner. Our Life in Vienna, Austria. Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Zanzibar: Sun and Sand. After our seven-day trek up-and-down Kilimanjaro, we took a short flight from Arusha to Zanzibar for a few days of down time. The resort we stayed at, Mvuvi Resort. Boarding the 13-passenger propeller plane to Zanzibar. Instrument panel looks complicated but the pilot spent more time completing paperwork than tending to the instruments. Tact at its finest. Resort patio and restaurant.

Wiener Schnitzel and Grüner Veltliner. Our Life in Vienna, Austria. Friday, December 14, 2012. Rowing Slowly in Slovenia. Bled Island, situation mostly in the middle of Lake Bled, is the only true island in Slovenia (as opposed to a fake island? No breeze, no waves, no boat traffic: smooth sailing! The bow, engine room, and stroke. On the island there is a small church housing a 15th-century belfry with a 'wishing-bell' that can be rung if a special favor is sought. My wish: to row in a straight line".

Wiener Schnitzel and Grüner Veltliner. Our Life in Vienna, Austria. Tuesday, June 12, 2012. At least not to Lichtensteiners. They are rich, literate, employed, and inhabit the only country in the world to lie entirely within the Alps (even if that country is the sixth smallest nation in the world by land area). Vaduz, the capital of Lichtenstein. Vaduz and the surrounding valley from above. My, what a small nation you have." "Oh, it's a principality? Ahh, I see.". I'm sleeping. She's beauty. The two cast...

Truth in advertising. Who knew? Aside from heavily fortified walls surrounding the Old Town (up to six meters thick! Any potential intruders would have also dealt with crazy-steep streets and narrow steps. Good luck hauling an enormous suitcase around this town. Then off to the beach. Now if I just had that cold drink.

Wiener Schnitzel and Grüner Veltliner. Our Life in Vienna, Austria. Tuesday, May 29, 2012. I feel so, so.free. Because this boy, the Manneken Pis, needs one. And after all the Belgian beer, I may as well. And didn't let up until the long weekend ended. Jupiler is a standard Belgian lager and Leffe is a white-beer. This is a country I could love.". It gets hot in hell. No wonder Satan makes his own beer. Beer alone couldn't sustain us. Or god. He needs to eat, too. Even if it is a glazed waffle. Why is it...

Wiener Schnitzel and Grüner Veltliner. Our Life in Vienna, Austria. Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Tapas and Tinto De Verano. We bicycled. We ate. And we drank. Not a bad way to experience the Andalucian countryside in southern Spain. The bicycle tour we booked - - a self-guided seven-day tour through the white villages. Of Andalucia - - began (for us) in Montecorto and ended in Ronda with stops in Olvera, Puerto Serrano, Zahara de la Sierra, and Grazalema. The ride was categorized as intermediate. And no tri...
