Tuesday, December 30, 2014. A little crappy. but unique. So here goes- first post, for no reason other than it's what's happening right now- and something needs to happen. Where would I be? I wouldn't know myself anymore. Wouldn't want to. I would rather be a business and writer failure and still flop around in the mirror than give up little pockets of raw joy and vulnerability in exchange for thin success. But wouldn't it be nice to have both? Temp page: https:/ clippings.me/margaretshugart.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Oh, where in Texas are you from? Did you got to UT? The conversation was progressing predictably. Yes, I did my undergraduate there.". Are you getting ready for graduate school now? I finished grad school a couple of years ago.". What are you going to do with your degree? My common joke: "You're looking at it! Then before I could say "just kidding" (although I'm not really kidding) or explain myself further, he laid down,. Ah, as a parent, I'd be very disappointed.". Say my love...

Expanding: gypsy vine
http://itsastretch.blogspot.com/2012/04/gypsy-vine.html
Monday, April 2, 2012. Playing around with the idea for naming a travel blog covering time in Europe/ working for the new guiding company. I kind of don't like the word "gypsy." Not because it has negative connotations, but because it feels a little overused and therefore trite. But I do like the idea of a vine being rooted and trained in a certain way, while still wandering. Not sure. The website is available though. May 4, 2012 at 11:41 PM. Zen and the Art of Waitering: February 2011
http://zenandtheartofwaitering.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Zen and the Art of Waitering. Enlightenment, one table at a time. Tuesday, February 15, 2011. Ignorance may not be bliss, but at least it's a handy excuse. To see what is right, and not to do it, is want of courage or of principle. Got around to watching the documentary Food, Inc. Because of the amount of gas needed to drive our food everywhere (the average meal takes about 1500 miles to get from the farm to your plate). Taken all together, that's an immense. You know you can't be doing this! Ignored....

Zen and the Art of Waitering. Enlightenment, one table at a time. Wednesday, December 28, 2011. If you wish to enter the mindset of the guest, it is crucial that you understand that the guest does not see you as an actual human being. It is the nature of the scorpion to do so - just as it is the nature of the guest to have the self-centeredness and self-importance of a two-year-old. Zen and the Art of Waitering. Zen and the Art of Waitering. Enlightenment, one table at a time. Wednesday, January 11, 2012. Polish the silverware to polish the silverware.". While washing the dishes one should only be washing the dishes, which means that while washing the dishes one should be completely aware of the fact that one is washing the dishes. At first glance, that might seem a little silly:. Why put so much stress on a simple thing? Wondrous reality. I'm being completely myself,. Thich Nhat Hanh,. The Miracle of Mindfulness.

Zen and the Art of Waitering. Enlightenment, one table at a time. Thursday, November 25, 2010. Thanksgiving at Bennigan's: A Holiday Story. The following is a piece I wrote for Chicago's Newcity. Magazine. It's a little longer than my usual posts, I hope you enjoy it. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! You might be asking yourself, who exactly would be eating out at a Bennigan's for Thanksgiving dinner. The answer? He looked glumly down at the plate and poked at the turkey with his fork. It's shit," he replied.

Zen and the Art of Waitering. Enlightenment, one table at a time. Monday, May 17, 2010. Has worrying ever changed the future? Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength. Still, sending out resume after resume and going on interview after interview has been a learning experience to say the least. It seemed that, much like that great line from Seinfeld,. The whole process taught me a lot. Mostly because I was so sure that I had it. In my mind I was already hi...

Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Her small, cool hands smelled of cigarette smoke, faded by a handwashing, and she had this confident way of flicking the application brushes around that made me relax and trust her talent. In the store, it looked pretty normal, my face. But when I got into the daylight and my car and I practically screamed to see myself in the mirror. It was just so OBVIOUS! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Abstaining from telling lies or deceiving, from slander and divisive speech, from rude, impolite or abusive language, and from idle chatter and gossip: This is called Right Speech. If your speech is not useful or beneficial it is best to keep silent. If you do not like something, change it. If you cannot change it, change your attitude. Do not complain. Which is a def...
