Well, i have a little new york schoolgirl :) makenzie started first grade this week. it's funny because she started on wednesday and then had thursday and friday off for rosh hashanah, so a very short first week. this next week will be a little more strange that she is in school all day everyday! In kindergarten she only went for 3 1/2 hours, so her being gone all day will be so weird! She was so excited to start and was bummed to not get to go back yet. :). Schools are quite different here!

Today makenzie got out her paints to make a book. she worked so hard on it. first she drew the outline for all the different birds. then she painted them and then she wrote about each one. i didn't help her at all, she came out of her room with the finished product. so cute! She even added a cover page, an inside cover and a back page :) i did tell her she should remember to write in pencil so that when she messes up she can erase instead of scribbling. :). I've been so annoyed with myself that i haven't blogged but i really have had nothing to blog about! Life has just been going, time flying as always. makenzie was sick and out of school for a week then went back to school for 2 days and out the rest of the week with a fever. it was sad. but we are all healthy now and hoping to stay that way! Makenzie's class had a thanksgiving feast on friday and the parents were invited to come. it was cute. they had the food spread out for them to eat with their friends dressed as pilgrims and indians. they sang three thanksgiving songs for us, it was really cute. it was super crowded but it was fun to see. One of the room moms was there all day and took pics of the kids for us to see. i looked through them and found a few with makenzie in them. I thought, oh great picture, makenzie, you look SO bored!

Heading out, leading the way. She stopped to take a picture of the waverly place street sign. there's a show on disney called, wizards of waverly place. :). Her picture of her first animal sighting.haha, one of the few animals in nyc. With copper and penny, who were thrilled with the exploration. Happened to blow the biggest bubble ever! I love christmas, i always have. every year with makenzie is just so fun. she loves all of the things leading up to christmas, the advent calendars, cookie making, decorating, buying gifts, wrapping gifts, the christmas story, the anticipation of christmas day, etc. she is so much fun. this year it was just the three of us and we had a wonderful time together. We did lots of christmas-y things all through december. We saw the rockefeller tree lighting. We saw the macy's famous santa. We made a gingerbread house. Makenzie's favorite christmas eve eve tradition is to watch christmas movies, eat christmas cookies and sleep out by the christmas tree. we started this last year in california and she was so excited to do it again this year. the air mattress she slept on stayed out all of christmas eve, that's what you see in the pictures. :).
