Monday, March 27, 2006. Bowing Down to Satan. A couple weeks ago, at Memorial, Terry Rush preached a sermon that touched on the temptation of Jesus. He made a few interesting points- the one I remembered the most specifically was that we tend to forget that these things Satan tempted him with were, indeed, tempting. I've never thought about it as a real issue. Jesus fires back the truth that God's word provides the body with more than just bread can. While I can't say I'd be able to do the same thing...

Monday, February 06, 2012. My Third Grade Self. When I was in 2nd grade, I switched schools. I didn't know anybody at my new school, and I was in a class that had kindergarteners, first graders, and 2nd graders. There were 3 teachers (Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Hagadon, and Mrs. Haff), and 73 students. There were a handful of other 2nd graders, but they were in the 2-3 split across the hall. I remember in 3rd grade I got invited to Sara's birthday. She was a grade behind me, and I honestly can't remember too ...

Thursday, June 17, 2010. There's a lot of things I think people do, say, or like because they feel like they're "supposed" to. Green tea. It is undeniable that green tea tastes a little bit like grass and dirt. And also that it looks like pee. Sometimes, there's a variety of green tea that has a flavor (from a fruit or another flower), or even some added sugar. But I'm talking about green tea all by itself, prepared in just boiling water. It tastes like grass and dirt. I feel like people want to be seen ...

Monday, November 28, 2005. My very first car accident. And i no longer have a car. Or the 6000 dollars that it cost. But i do have a nice headache. Sunday, November 27, 2005. I'm having a hard time sleeping. And isn't that the heart of insightful posts? Usually, yes. Tonight? Probably not. We'll see where the mind takes us. Why am I now suddenly deciding I want to major in physics? Is it from 3 and a half years of having none of it after 3 years of physics every day? I have to do what honors God most.

Monday, May 30, 2005. Something I just realized. I don't think that moms actually. Your opinion when they say, "what do you think? Keep your mouth shut Kari! Sunday, May 29, 2005. I'd not be too happy if I was allergic to Dogs. Take me back, foggy memory screen. It was my very first day in my brand new school in 2nd grade. Oh, that would have made it.1990? And so now, to this day, whenever I blow my nose, I am reminded of this story. And I've got baaaad year-round allergies, so that's a lot. Out of the t...

Saturday, January 28, 2006. An (un)interesting turn of events:. I never really realized that Forrest Gump was such a good movie. I don't remember ever really liking it before. But I think I really like it. I wonder how much time I waste that I could be doing something great instead? Maybe instead of listening to music when I run, I should think. And instead of playing other people's songs on the guitar I should play more of my own. I guess I should keep my promises. It's easy to know something. Oddly eno...

Monday, June 27, 2005. I have finally come to grips with the fact that the Pistons lost game 7. It took me a while. A few tears, a couple shouts, several days of denial.but my dear sweet Pistons, your turn this year is over. You did well (off and on) and I'm proud of you. In other news, Mom and Drewey are in the midst of their 2nd week in Honduras and I'm pretty sure they're doing fine. Mom's all over physical labor, and Drew can haul his oats when he needs to. Thursday, June 23, 2005. How can I keep get...

Thursday, December 03, 2009. Growing Up Stole My Christmas. Here is my disturbing realization:. Christmas Day is just a day. Is the celebration of Christmas. This year, I will be waking up on Christmas morning alone in my house. Probably without a tree. Or lights. Or presents. Or stockings. Because it's just me here. And it's making me realize that December 25th doesn't mean anything. The day that's going to count for me is January 1st or 2nd when I get to be in Tulsa with my sisters, brother, and parents.

Sunday, August 28, 2005. Well, I've been a 6th grade math teacher at Michigan Technical Academy in Detroit for a week now, and it's going great. I got really sick on Friday, though, and hopefully I'll get over it by tomorrow. Anyhow, there's a lot of stuff that I've learned in my 5 short days as a real grown up teacher, and college didn't prepare me for. 1 African American children have naturally loud voices. If you want to be heard you have to get their attention first,. 7 Hands off the 'fro. It was rea...
