Hickory Hill: Back Porch/Playroom-Schoolroom: BEFORE
http://hickoryhillhouse.blogspot.com/2011/09/back-porchplayroom-schoolroom-before.html
A young family, an old house. There's always something. Wednesday, September 7, 2011. Oh, it is such fun to tear off something old and discover something even OLDER underneath. Goodbye, strange pre-drywall wood-shaving-composite panels. hello, old beadboard and original exterior siding. (This room used to be a back porch, probably added in the 1920's or 30's, before the exterior siding was covered by stucco.). February 9, 2012 at 8:37 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Hickory Hill: Encounter with the Grave
http://hickoryhillhouse.blogspot.com/2010/03/encounter-with-grave.html
A young family, an old house. There's always something. Sunday, March 21, 2010. Encounter with the Grave. Boy, that sounds dramatic. A couple of weeks ago, my family journeyed down to the Ponca area to hike Lost Valley. And meet up with our family. Cousins trooped through the woods together, but because of a mild foot injury, I was pretty sure that a long hike over uneven terrain would prove painful for me. I backed out of the hike and explored the valley a bit instead. I decided to wander through the li...
Hickory Hill: Why an old house?
http://hickoryhillhouse.blogspot.com/2010/03/why-old-house.html
A young family, an old house. There's always something. Saturday, March 13, 2010. Why an old house? This is a repost of an entry I made in my Rootsome. Blog a while back. I'm moving it over here as I try to separate family/personal stuff from house stuff, creating one home for each type of writing. Why do I want to live in an old house? In absolutely no particular order. 5 Our walls. Solid wood, 1" thick, where drywall would be in a modern house. Beat that for sound and weather insulation. 6 Our hooks an...

Hickory Hill: March 2010
http://hickoryhillhouse.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
A young family, an old house. There's always something. Sunday, March 21, 2010. We've been watching a heavy, wet snow fall outside all this Sunday morning. It'll turn to rain after 10 am," they said. Ha. Six inches or more and still coming down. It was spring, but now it's winter again! Quite bizarre for us Southerners! Encounter with the Grave. Boy, that sounds dramatic. A couple of weeks ago, my family journeyed down to the Ponca area to hike Lost Valley. I decided to wander through the little graveyar...

Rooting About, Becoming Rooted. Rootsome.: A smattering of updates.
http://rootsome.blogspot.com/2012/04/smattering-of-updates.html
A smattering of updates. Monday, April 23, 2012. I went last week with 9000 other women to receive the Word through a woman. I'm still chewing on her words, thinking about what God would have me learn. One thing: a spiritual life lived alone, without connection to others, will on some level lack maturity. I'm prone to this and it rings like a warning bell in my head. Repeatedly and pondering this good ol' boy's. Rain gutter grow system. But until then, a few more weeks of tracking school hours and marchi...
Rooting About, Becoming Rooted. Rootsome.: July 2011
http://rootsome.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 11, 2011. The sun's in overdrive. Blazing, blasting, relentless. I water my vegetables in our little plot at the new community garden, but my front yard plants are suffering with only their mulch to save them. There only seems to be time to water one thing, and I choose the veggies, dreaming of tomatoes and eggplants and squash that are only now beginning to form, slowly and reluctantly under this oppressive heat. I'm stumped, and failing on this point.). Spiritual growth, depth, honesty?

Rooting About, Becoming Rooted. Rootsome.: Sacred trust.

Tuesday, February 26, 2013. I kept him out too late last night, visiting with friends while I let him play games on my phone. His red eyes drooped by the time I scooped him into his booster seat for the quick ride home. "Thanks, mama," he said, already leaning his head against the side of the seat. He barely woke up to be carried to bed once we were home. Sorry, buddy. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Adventures, there are other places for that.

Rooting About, Becoming Rooted. Rootsome.: A list of good things.
http://rootsome.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-list-of-good-things.html
A list of good things. Friday, June 29, 2012. May I list a few things I enjoy about myself, please? A day or two ago, I could not think of a single thing that made me a useful part of my family. (That sounds awful. It felt awful, in that moment. I'm sure you've had them yourself. Let's leave it there for now.). Tonight, though, I can think of a few. and I'd like to take the luxury of pondering them for a moment while the crickets sing and the dog snores at my feet. Wheee) Also, two nights for free at a h...

http://rootsome.blogspot.com/2012/08/rain-and-mutinae-in-midst-of-night.html
Rain and mutinae in the midst of the night. Wednesday, August 01, 2012. The chalk sticks the kids left outside on the sidewalk may be ruined. I guess there's a lesson in that, so I won't scuttle out there in the downpour trying to find them. (I warned them to pick them up today but I think we all got distracted.). My Kindle's MIA after this week's craziness. I have no idea where I put it. Last saw it in the passenger's seat of the car, which worries me. Did someone snatch it? The chalk will recover, and ...

Sunday, August 07, 2011. Hating being told to sit still for a picture. 2009. I think we nearly lost our little dog this afternoon. Then, forty minutes later, her head straightened, and a minute or two later, she shakily got to her feet and tottered off for a drink. Aaron watched in amazement. Hanging out with Gracie at the grandparents'. 2008? There could be more of these, one after another. There could never be another. We really have no idea. Has she had them before, when we were gone?

In no other breed is there present such a remarkable combination of gentleness, camaraderie and reliability. An Excerpt from our AKC Standard. The American Staffordshire Terrier should give the impression of great strength for his size, a well put-together dog, muscular, but agile and graceful, keenly alive to his surroundings. He should be stocky, not long-legged or racy in outline. His courage is proverbial. Also home of van de Heuvel Belgian Malinois. Bred for Structure / Big Character / Stability.
