Hitting the High Notes: October 2014

My Seasons of Life. Life is a journey not a competition. In a competition the focus is on performance. The winners are the ones who break the records, and go home with the trophies – all the others are merely participants. For a good part of my Christian life I subconsciously viewed my walk with Christ as a competition. In my estimation, my performance resulted in God’s acceptance of me. I spent a lot of time trying to impress God and compete for the trophy of His approval. I was merely participating.
Hitting the High Notes: God is so Good - Month in Review - April

My Seasons of Life. God is so Good - Month in Review - April. The days are getting warmer; and it feels wonderful in the morning to be awakened to the sounds of birds singing outside. We have spied several different types of birds coming to the feeders. We have a flock of blue jays that regularly feed, several woodpeckers, pigeons and of course a lot of sparrows. Anna, Zak and I will often take time before we start our school day to sit on the porch and watch the birds coming and going. I was so excited.

My Seasons of Life. Together - Because of HIM. The first thought in my mind when the doctor said "cancer" was that we needed to get James home. I had been thinking that I really needed my son home with us during this time. I thought about it when I was cleaning the house, when I went to bed at night and when I got up in the morning. "I want James to come home" was a thought that occupied a lot of my thinking. But when I heard the word cancer - the thought changed to "We have to get James home! I started ...
Hitting the High Notes: The Dilemma

My Seasons of Life. The sun was coming in the kitchen window and I had positioned my coffee cup to the chair next to the kitchen door. I can see the bird feeder there – and the morning light shines just right. The windows were open, the birds were singing and my bagel was toasting in the toaster oven. There was still steam coming from my coffee cup on the table when she walked in. Her hair was rumpled from a night of sleep and dreams and she still had that ‘just awakened’ look in her eyes. My little adop...

My Seasons of Life. The assignment was given – and I was excited. I would be able to write about someone I had admired for years. I had this one! Disappointed. But what happens, though, when it’s not a historical figure – but faith itself? Photo: Abbey Grace Photography. John sincerely, and in utter desperati...
