The village of Wetwang is on the gentle slopes of the East Yorkshire Wolds some 7 miles west of the market town of Driffield. What we see today has evolved from a village planned and built by Archbishop Thomas in the late 11th century. The farms and cottages built along a main street with a lane running behind them on the North and South sides. A church and burial ground in the middle of the village and a pond at each end. Wetwang is a village with a long history.

Acklam is a small village situated 6 miles south of Malton, nestling at 400ft (120m) above sea level in a narrow valley in the western foothills of the Yorkshire Wolds with superb views of the Vale of York towards the Pennines in the distance. On Acklam Wold there are large earthworks that are generally supposed to have been created by ancient Britons. In the village was a motte and bailey. The church was dedicated to St John the Baptist. The public house is the Half Moon Inn .
