Hiiumaa muinsuskaitsehuvilised hakkasid organiseeruma 1987. aasta novembris, kui umbes viiskümmend inimest otsustasid luua Hiiumaa muinsuskaitseklubi. Eesti Muinsuskaitse Seltsi asutamiskongressile 1987. aasta detsembris Tallinnas valiti kolm delegaati. Hiiumaa Muinsuskaitse Selts asutati 18. veebruaril 1988. Hiljem sai seltsingu nimetuseks Hiiumaa Muinsuskaitse Selts Kodusaar . Hiiumaa Muinsuskaitse Seltsi põhikiri. Võeti vastu asutamiskoosolekul 29. märtsil 2012. Juhatuse esimeheks valiti Dan Lukas.
