Grayson Highlands | hiking the appalachians

https://hikingtheappalachians.wordpress.com/2015/05/06/grayson-highlands

Follow Me on Instagram! May 6, 2015. Fast forward seven months. It’s Thursday afternoon and I was checking the weather forecast for the weekend so that I could go backpacking. Usually I go to Shenandoah National Park because it is somewhat close to Quantico, but the forecast called for rain on Saturday. I decided to take my day off the next day and head five and a half hours south, to the Grayson Highlands, which are famous for their breathtaking views and wild ponies. I reached the shelter at 7pm and se...

Old Rag Mountain | hiking the appalachians

https://hikingtheappalachians.wordpress.com/2015/04/12/old-rag-mountain

Follow Me on Instagram! April 12, 2015. Today a few friends and I made the trip out to Shenandoah National Park to hike Old Rag Mountain, as a farewell trip for one of my good buddies leaving the Marine Corps. Old Rag is one of the most popular hikes in Virginia. With breathtaking views and fun rock scrambles, it makes for a great day hike. The boulder scramble near the top can cause lines to back up as people search for sound foot and hand holds on days like today, but we arrived at two-thirty and misse...

Follow Me on Instagram! Monthly Archives: January 2016. Coffee Shops, Kids, and Brainstorming. January 21, 2016. The other day I was sitting in my favorite haunt, Hyperion. I want to continue to expand this site, but won’t always be able to pack a bag and leave on a whim once or twice a month. My travels, after all, are mainly what I have written about, and I was stumped. Fast forward ten minutes. Better question: They don’t look old enough to drive, so where are their parents? Needless to say, I did not...

Follow Me on Instagram! Monthly Archives: February 2016. Roan Highlands and String Bands. February 1, 2016. I left Fredericksburg Friday afternoon, meandering west down the back roads to I81, which I would drive south all the way to the state line, five hours away. The weather was perfect: clear, blue skies, 60 degrees and not much traffic. I had actually never heard of YMSB before, but I love string bands so I agreed as soon as they offered- who turns down free tickets anyways? Follow Blog via Email.

Searching for secrets in the Appalachians. Quick trip to Hot Springs. March 3, 2015. March 3, 2015. And so very needed after what we went through to get there. After we left we drove into Marshall, NC which is only about twenty minutes down the road. Marshall is another adorable little town with cute shops. Last time we were there we stumbled upon a coffee shop called Zuma that we really enjoyed, so we had a late breakfast there again we weren’t disappointed. Some of us just know. Follow me on Twitter.

Searching for secrets in the Appalachians. Three Years from Now. January 19, 2015. I love writing fiction. I am never at a loss of stories to tell (with my writing, not out loud! By Charlene Geiss and Claudia Jessup. You randomly choose a card with a writing prompt, then read the corresponding book page before journaling. I decided once a week I will pull a card from the deck and that will be the subject of my blog. Here goes nothing. The card I drew is Three Years from Now. A year of plenty. You are com...

Searching for secrets in the Appalachians. July 19, 2015. July 19, 2015. I’m not sure how I thought I’d feel at 29 or where I thought I’d be in life. Looking at the large stack of books on my dining room table, my books, half of which are already sold, I’m feeling pretty good about entering the last year of my twenties. Just an update →. 3 thoughts on “ 29 and holding? July 19, 2015 at 2:21 am. Happy birthday, Willie! And congratulations on selling all those books. I hope you have a fabulous year. You ar...

It is time for me to work on my new book and not feel guilty about neglecting the house for an hour or even a day. It is time for me to drink tea and plan my garden for spring. It is time for me to get up early and practice yoga every day so I can honor a promise I made to myself. It is time for me to learn to play the fiddle I’ve had for two years. Reading, writin...

Hiking the Appalachian Trail (in Sections). Monday, May 10, 2010. I met some neat people on trail including a lady that lived in the Arctic Circle where they get 10 months of winter and a guy who was the three time world champion of pumpkin chunkin'. Everyone on the trail is very nice and always willing to share a trail story or discuss their equipment and tell you why it's the best. Sunday, May 2, 2010.
