Hiking the Oregon Coast Trail: June 2014
http://hikingtheoct.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 22, 2014. Mile 363 to Mile 386.4: Secret Beach (Sam Boardman State Scenic Corridor) to the California border. Cumulative mileage figures in parentheses refer to mileage in this section only. Notations such as “(Hike 109)” refer to hikes in my book. Day Hiking: Oregon Coast. Let me know about your OCT journey, especially anything that contradicts or adds to the information in this blog. I will happily share it with other hikers. Posted by Bonnie Henderson. Tuesday, June 17, 2014. I would love...
Hiking the Oregon Coast Trail: February 2014
http://hikingtheoct.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Mile 269 to Mile 279: Seven Devils to Bandon. Cumulative mileage figures in parentheses refer to mileage in this section only. This post gets you to Bandon—a fairly short OCT stretch. I took a layover day here, and it’s a good place to regroup and resupply, as the distances between towns are farther here on Oregon’s South Coast. Plus Bandon is a nice town and easily within walking distance of the hiker-biker camp at Bullards Beach State Park. Backpackers rounding Fivemile Point.
Hiking the Oregon Coast Trail: February 2015
http://hikingtheoct.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 17, 2015. What stretch of the Oregon Coast Trail do you recommend I hike? One, although the OCT is not a wilderness trail, unless you have some experience backpacking (and possess the skills and spirit of self-reliance that implies), I recommend sticking with day hiking. There are many challenges involved, including timing of the tides, uncertain campsites, sometimes very long distances, etc. Three, there is no stretch that is not incredibly scenic. Alternately, are you willing to call ...
Hiking the Oregon Coast Trail: Celebrating mid-life with an OCT thru-hike

Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Celebrating mid-life with an OCT thru-hike. In January I received the following e-mail from a woman named Patti:. Buena Vista Beach Access, south of Gold Beach. While I've day hiked 14 miles at a stretch (and stumbled toward the end! Your blog stated that you didn't feel safety was an issue. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated as I contemplate the adventure.". UPDATE: After posting this, I received the following e-mail: "Please let Patti know that women in their mid-70s h...
Hiking the Oregon Coast Trail: May 2014
http://hikingtheoct.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 5, 2014. Mile 296 to Mile 316.8: Floras Lake to Humbug Mountain State Park. Notations such as “(Hike 97)” refer to hikes in my book Day Hiking: Oregon Coast. Cumulative mileage figures in parentheses refer to mileage in this section only. The route from Floras Lake onto Blacklock Point can be a bit confusing. Re-scouting this stretch is on my summer 2014 list of things to do. Until then, these directions ought to get you where you’re going, with or without a little backtracking. If the tide i...

Reflections on mystery, faith and culture. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Tag Archives: Oregon Coast. February 25, 2015. I was on a roll, blogging about my big walk in September. Feeling more balanced in my new, single life; beginning to believe that I would not have to live a diminished life now that Mark is gone; settling into my little rental house in North Portland, Oregon. Then he woke one Saturday in late September feeling as though someone had kicked him in the liver. I’m ...

Andy's Big Adventure | The mountains are calling and I must go
Andy's Big Adventure. The mountains are calling and I must go. 3 Years Without Andy. August 29, 2016. Often times I wonder . . . if Andy were still alive what would he be doing right now with his life. Would he be happy? Isn’t that what we all want for our children, for ourselves, for those we love? If you have an open heart, it’s what we want for all people for everyone to be happy. What I have right now are just memories, and those memories change as I grow older and my life unwittingly moves forward.
Hiking The Pain Away
Hiking The Pain Away. December 22, 2016. I have SO much to do. Thankfully, I have just under 6 months to do them. Hiking The Pathways | Enjoying Texarkana's Trail System One At A Time
About Hiking The Pathways. Enjoying Texarkana's Trail System One At A Time. Race Review: Run the Line. April 4, 2011 by joesaulsehy. Now that some time has passed, I’d like to review my thoughts on the race. This won’t be an objective post. As a member of the organizing committee, it’s impossible for me to present an opinion that won’t be biased. With that warning, let’s get started. I made it to the starting line pretty tired. 3) The post-race party. The fact that the party is downtown, in front of ...
Mexico Here I Am
Mexico Here I Am. Saturday, January 22, 2011. True to be said, I am no stranger to the beach. Seasoned early on with the Washington coast and wind and chill, appropriate attire included jeans, a hoodie and maybe even a stocking cap. But as time has passed, slowly and with the laziest of snowbirds I gradually migrated south, enjoying warmer and warmer shores. This trip had been planned for a while. Every Christmas break the staff tries to do something with the kids that have nowhere to go. Even so, I rent...
