The quest to become...: Sexism alive, well and thriving... WARNING RANT!
http://diamonddixie1.blogspot.com/2014/05/sexism-alive-well-and-thriving-warning.html
The quest to become. Thursday, May 8, 2014. Sexism alive, well and thriving. WARNING RANT! I find it amazing that the generation of women who fought the hardest for female equality raised sons who are more sexist and more disrespectful towards women than any generation of men before them. Poker is a very male dominated field so when you play a game that is very male dominated you have to expect and tolerate a certain amount of sexism, it's just the price we pay. This was all in response to a comment I ma...

900 miles: Chimney Tops Trail
http://900-miles.blogspot.com/2009/12/chimney-tops-trail.html
Thursday, December 24, 2009. Sarah and I hiked this trail on our 20th anniversary weekend. We'd always wanted to do this trail, but it's not recommended for small kids because it's a VERY strenuous trail (straight up) and because the rock outcrop at the top of the trail is dangerous. So our anniversary weekend when we were all alone was the perfect time to tackle it. As you come around a corner on the ridge you can see the Chimney Tops in the distance. It's a pretty imposing formation. After the hike Sar...

900 miles: Brushy Mountain Trail
http://900-miles.blogspot.com/2013/04/brushy-mountain-trail.html
Monday, April 22, 2013. New Miles Completed: 4.5. Total Miles Hiked: 11.8. Spring has finally sprung here in the Smokies! It's a glorious time of the year for hiking and I took full advantage yesterday. I had been to Brushy Mountain twice before, but both times had come up the Trillium Gap trail which comes up from Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. Brushy Mountain trail starts in Porters Flats, out at the end of the Greenbrier Road, a mile along the Porters Creek trail. Where you can see them all. Once yo...

Monday, January 20, 2014. Rabbit Creek and Hannah Mountain (partial) trails. New Miles Completed: 7.0. Total Miles Hiked: 14.0. Started with wet feet, and ended with wet feet… Everything in between was glorious! The Rabbit Creek trail goes between Abrams Creek Ranger Station and Cades Cove. Hannah Mountain trail goes from Parson Branch road up to Abrams Creek. Today I did pieces of each, but didn't finish up either of them. Crossing of Mill Creek at the beginning of the Rabbit Creek trail. As the trail d...

Monday, August 22, 2011. Trail Miles Completed: 1.7. Trail Miles Hiked: 6.2. Cooper Road trail runs from Abrams Creek out to Cades Cove. On this day we planned to just to a little chunk from Abrams Creek up to the junction with Gold Mine Trail at Cane Gap. Duncan at the fire ring in Campsite #1. August 22, 2011 at 11:46 AM. My ultim...

900 miles: Cooper Road Trail
http://900-miles.blogspot.com/2013/01/cooper-road-trail.html
Monday, January 21, 2013. New Miles Completed: 5.7. Total Miles Hiked: 13. 1 If a trail has a name like "Wet Bottoms," there's probably a reason. 2 Planning to hike a trail named "Wet Bottoms" a mere day or two after a week-long torrential downpour shows poor judgement. It's a beautiful day, and it's a holiday so I'm not at work. What else would I be doing other than hiking? Once the sun started to peek over the ridge it lit up the western end of the cove spectacularly. From Abrams Creek campground to th...

Sunday, November 27, 2011. New Trail Miles Completed: 8.7. Total Trail Miles Hiked: 13.2. I've had my eye on this loop for a while. I had actually intended to do it as an overnight backpacking trip, but decided on the spur of the moment to make a day-hike out of it on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Anthony Creek Trailhead @ Cades Cove picnic area. I have to start out by saying one thing about this loop - there are a LOT of ROCKS on these trails! Anthony Creek - Russell Field trail junction. I took the ...

Tuesday, December 22, 2009. These pages are to document my plan to hike all 900 miles of trails. In the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I'm starting this blog in Dec. 2009 so first I'll list the trails hiked since I moved to Tennessee in 1999 til now. Our family did lots of short hikes and partial trails during that time, but I've only listed completed trails below. Total mileage hiked: 8.7. 4 April, 2005. As a volunteer leader with the Annual Wildflower Pilgrimage. Total mileage hiked: 5. 7 April, ...

The quest to become...: January 2014
http://diamonddixie1.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
The quest to become. Sunday, January 19, 2014. Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me. Was listening to the Doors and heard this song. How perfect is this for these damn long ass poker downswings? I've been down so very long that looks like up to me! Why don't one of you people come on and set me free? Won't you break the lock and key? How many of us can say we've felt this way on more than one occasion? Anyway just heard this song and got inspired to write about this. Onward and upward you crazy onlin...
