BCBA Reading Challenge #21 - Wonder. 2013's Buckeye Children's Book Award winner for grades 3-5 was Wonder. By RJ Palacio. I have been a big fan of this book since it came out, and I was astonished that it didn't win a gold or silver Newbery award. So I was thrilled when it won the BCBA! Our story is about a boy named Auggie who is about to start 5th grade. Up until now he has been homeschooled, as he has had to have several surgeries (27! There are many "spin-off" titles - 365 Days of Wonder. Ms Bixby's...

Buckeye Book Award Reading Challenge! I am shamelessly stealing the wording of this from my partner-in-crime, Jill Merkle ( The Page Turning Librarian. And take no credit for writing this. That same year, Laura Given of. Announced the Caldecott Challenge – 1938-Present. Around the same time, Travis Jonker of. Like the r...

BCBA Reading Challenge #16 - Diary of a Wimpy Kid. 2008's Buckeye Children's Book Award winner for grades 3-5 was Diary of a Wimpy Kid. By Jeff Kinney. Can you believe there are now 11 books in this series? I'm not sure an end is in sight, either! Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Originally a popular web comic, the book is one of the first (or quite possibly. First) of a new style of book that blends traditional chapters and paragraphs with graphic novel elements. The simple drawings (comic book style!

BCBA Reading Challenge #15 - Stink. 2007's Buckeye Children's Book Award winner for grades 3-5 was Stink: The Incredible Shrinking Kid. By Megan McDonald and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds. Stink: The Incredible Shrinking Kid. Stink also has to deal with taking care of the class pet, writing a paper on President's Day, and his mean older sister! BCBA Reading Challenge #14 - Double Fudge. 2005's Buckeye Children's Book Award winner for grades 3-5 was Double Fudge. By Judy Blume - a third win for the author, and second in the Fudge series. I'm not at all surprised at the multiple wins by various authors, as it only solidifies the view that those authors have fantastic writing and popularity, but it's always nice to see that kids enjoy books that adults find wonderful as well. For me, this wasn't as good as Superfudge. We welcome anyone at any time!

BCBA Reading Challenge #17 - Found. 2009's Buckeye Children's Book Award winner for grades 3-5 was Found. By Margaret Peterson Haddix. This winner is a memorable one for me, not only because I'm a huge fan of the author, but also because this was my first year as a media specialist and therefore my first time having my school participate in the Buckeye Children's Book Award! Is tricky to explain, as the plot has a lot going on - much like most other MPH books. That's also what sucks you in! About Miss L&...
