A Musing Pom: November 2010
http://amusingpom.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 23, 2010. A précis of the last blog post. What the hell was that all about". Feedback on my last post, here's a quick summary:. 1 Don't listen to economists and housing market commentators. They have as much idea about what is going to happen as a demented ameoba. 3 Definitely don't listen to me. I have been wrong so many times about the housing market, and I can see no obvious reason why that should change now! Saturday, November 20, 2010. Economics: a journey into the unknown. This is...

A Musing Pom: The Boat People
http://amusingpom.blogspot.com/2010/12/boat-people.html
Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Everyone in New Zealand has a boat. It might be an 8ft dinghy with a big hole where the hull ought to be, but it's still a boat. More often than not, though, it's some big mother of a boat, with either lots of ropes and sails onboard, or some mammoth piece of equipment attached with Mercury written on it. And then I would have to practice reversing a trailer - something I have done little of in the past, and never without incident. December 31, 2010 at 6:11 AM. I do not like...

A Musing Pom: Each to their own
http://amusingpom.blogspot.com/2010/12/each-to-their-own.html
Thursday, December 9, 2010. Each to their own. I have come to the conclusion that there are just two types of people: those that want to sail boats (yachts) and those that want to drive them (motor boats). There are numerous flavours within that spectrum - e.g. some want to race yachts, while others want to float around in a peaceful daze watching the herons and oyster catchers go about their daily rituals - but I'm convinced that there is a fairly clear divide between the two groups. Each to their own.

http://amusingpom.blogspot.com/2010/12/i-blog-therefore-i-am.html
Wednesday, December 29, 2010. I blog therefore I am. Thanks to Mick and Carol for my new T-shirt, modelled by.ermm.me. I was working at the PC, shirtless - more information than you needed? When Hils handed me the parcel. I am now working avec mon nouveau T-shirt, and don't I look a smart chap? Thanks also to Sarah, Stuart and family for the prezzies - all pretty much consumed or in use. I had to swap Hils's "dirty chocolates" for mine, but that was fine with me. A Musing Pom: This is a job for...Aerosol Man
http://amusingpom.blogspot.com/2011/01/this-is-job-foraerosol-man.html
Saturday, January 8, 2011. This is a job for.Aerosol Man. Hils has renamed me "Aerosol Man". I should explain. Although I am fastidious in my personal hygiene, as those that have ventured within a few feet of me can testify, this is nothing at all to do with my post-shower underarm application activities. No, this is to do with insects and their untimely end. On those occasions, I have been known to throw the lights on in the middle of the night and search for the little sod in some sort of weird hide-an...

A Musing Pom: Economics: a journey into the unknown
http://amusingpom.blogspot.com/2010/11/economics-journey-into-unknown.html
Saturday, November 20, 2010. Economics: a journey into the unknown. Like everyone else in the UK, I'd like to know what's going to happen to the British economy and more specifically, given our intention to enter the property market again when we get back to Blighty, the housing market. As a result, I spend an inordinate amount of time reading commentary on the economy and the property market, and frankly I should know better. The bottom line is that my opinion, and yours, is just as valuable as those of...

A Musing Pom: October 2010
http://amusingpom.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 31, 2010. If you think of a list of nations regarded as well-dressed, the Italians are probably top, followed maybe by other south European countries, like Spain and Portugal, and maybe France (although I'm loath to give them credit for anything). Although probably about average for a Brit in the way I present myself, there are times here in New Zealand when I feel decidedly dapper, but with vest-top and flip-flops (or Jandals, as they call them here). Me, looking after a large,. And so w...

A Musing Pom: January 2011
http://amusingpom.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 11, 2011. I told you so. Vindication instils a lovely feeling. It's very comforting to read something that backs up what you've been saying, and this recent article. In the Guardian does just that. It's about the US housing market, but the very same criticism can be levelled at "economists" here too (see my blog post. From November about economists). Rather than try to paraphrase the author's argument, I'll use some of it word-for-word:. Many of the economists we hear on the TV or read i...

A Musing Pom: Oh, to be in Australia now that summer's here!
http://amusingpom.blogspot.com/2010/12/oh-to-be-in-australia-now-that-summers.html
Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Oh, to be in Australia now that summer's here! Australia's a pretty good place to find yourself at any time, but immediately following England's retention of the Ashes, in Australia, would indeed be a fine time for a Pom to be there. I am within a few short hours' flying time of Oz and can almost hear the vainglorious chants of the Barmy Army as they parade around Melbourne giving the locals some serious earache. Knighthoods all round for the English team! Each to their own.

A Musing Pom: It's over!
http://amusingpom.blogspot.com/2010/12/its-over.html
Wednesday, December 29, 2010. I'm not a big fan of Christmas, but even for me there was something lacking this year - friends and family. Hils and I had a good and relaxing Christmas with the New Zealand branch of my family, but we were aware that we missed our UK-based families and friends. I can't say that I particularly wanted to be in England, with all that snow and ice malarkey, but I did want you all to be out here. I almost. December 30, 2010 at 11:28 AM. I still have a Maccallam and a bushmills a...
