A little bit of… Istanbul. Archive April, 2012. Road Trip Day 3–Pergamum and the Adventure to Bursa. There’s nothing like a spaceship/disco shower to start the day! It was cold in there! Unfortunately I was too cold to get out the camera while we were inside the museum, but did snap one photo in the courtyard. Here it is…. I had never heard of this place before, but found the ruins and surrounding scenery to be quite lovely. And of course, the Acropolis can be seen from here too. Blog at WordPress.com.

A little bit of… Istanbul. Archive January, 2012. Road Trip, Day 2–Troy and the Drive to Pergamum. Here we are packing up our things at the Canakkale hotel, getting ready for a day filled with the ruins of Troy and the lovely road trip to Pergamum. No, this isn’t Ben’s attempt at a unique camera face – Liz just slipped the camera in an snapped a shot while packing was in progress. So nice to have good travel buddies! This next bunch of photos is of our time at Troy. The movie Troy. Do you see us? As we w...

A little bit of… Istanbul. Archive December, 2011. Road Trip, Day 1: Gallipoli & Canakkale. In November we joined forces with another local American couple (Emily and Dennis) and took a road trip. We essentially did a counter-clockwise movement west out of Istanbul, skirting the Sea of Marmara, and returning to Istanbul from the east. It was a 4-day, 3-night trip, and we had a blast! This quick bite of lunch turned into an expensive feast, not what he had in mind at all! First stop was the site of the in...

A little bit of… Istanbul. The freshness and affordability of the foodstuffs are incredible! Right now, there is a pretty good exchange rate in our favor between the USD and the Turkish Lira. It is about 1.75 TL to 1 USD, meaning 1 TL is about $0.57. This becomes exciting when you are walking down the pazar and see fresh tomatoes selling for 1TL per kilo! 22 pounds of fresh tomatoes for 57 cents! From Elizabeth: I have become a market snob! She spent her first night in her box in our bathroom, and didn&#...

Noodling Around: Welcome to Capitol Hill: Ted's Bulletin
http://jblacknoodlingaround.blogspot.com/2011/11/welcome-to-capitol-hill-teds-bulletin.html
Miscellaneous Musings, Confessions, and Prattle. November 2, 2011. Welcome to Capitol Hill: Ted's Bulletin. Is a unique, cozy restaurant located on 8th Street, which is near the Marine Barracks, or Barracks Row. A lot of new restaurants have been going in there during the last few years and so when people say “8. Street,” you know that they’re referring to all of the hoppin’ eateries along this particular Capitol Hill thoroughfare. Our favorite thing so far at Ted’s has been the homemade pop-tarts. And i...

Miscellaneous Musings, Confessions, and Prattle. December 19, 2010. C is For Cookie. And Clementines. And Coffee. S we all know, a fun thing about Christmastime is the Christmastime-specific treats. Cookies, special coffee drinks, etc. So I dedicate this post to all the little sugary nibbles out there that give this season a little sumpin’ sumpin’ extra, and in more ways than one—they add equally to our tastebuds’ pleasure and our waistlines. My mom brought some cookies out at Thanksgiving. I think s...

Miscellaneous Musings, Confessions, and Prattle. October 28, 2011. When I was little, my mom used to make us "butterfly sandwiches" (a peanut butter sandwich cut diagonally and placed with a banana so that it looked like a butterfly). He other day, when I was making a quick sandwich for lunch, I decided to revisit the butterfly sandwich that I once held so dear. Just bringing a little bit of nostalgia to what would ordinarily be a simple peanut butter and honey sandwich. October 27, 2011. So, I recommend...

Miscellaneous Musings, Confessions, and Prattle. February 27, 2011. At the end of this October a mix of friends, Travis, and I will be in a crowd very much like this one. That's right. We have all taken crazy pills and signed up for the 2011 Marine Corps Marathon which is held annually here in DC. Yikes! If you had told me around this time last year that I would be signing up for a marathon, I would have laughed and said, "No way! 3) Oprah did it (she ran the MCM sometime in the 90s).So can I! 4) This ra...

Miscellaneous Musings, Confessions, and Prattle. October 14, 2011. Book Report: Shopping for Time. N ote: Shopping for Time is. By Carolyn Mahaney, Nicole Whitacre, Kristin Chesemore, and Janelle Bradshaw. All of those names were too long to fit in the post title! Aren’t we all trying to strike some sort of balance and tackle the to-do list, pour into relationships, serve others and God well, and still have time for some fun and relaxation? Is a quick read and one that I can’t say I absolutely love...

Miscellaneous Musings, Confessions, and Prattle. November 30, 2010. The Giving of Thanks.Through Much Feasting. This year we hosted Thanksgiving for my immediate family. My mom and dad came out from Colorado, and my brother ventured up from Atlanta. This was my third time taking charge of planning and preparing the meal and it went well. I had lots of help with all of the cooking which was great. Mom and I cooked all day on Wednesday. A marathon 9 hours in the kitchen. Whew! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
