When walking down the streets of Toronto, I see the contrast between the old buildings that were built in the end of the 19th century, and the modern architectures that had rapidly grew throughout the end of the 20th century. Toronto is proudly known as the People city where people of different cultural backgrounds live. I wanted to paint the interesting features, the people, and the scenery of the 21st century in Toronto, and decided to create the series of Colour of Toronto. Go to Color of Toronto.

Born in Shiga-prefecture, Japan, Hiroshi graduated Kyoto Industrial Design Institute and Kyoto Japanese Art School, studied traditional arts and history, including Nihonga and Sumi-e style painting. He studied under Mr. Rokuro Yamamoto, a specialist in Nihonga, and is deeply influenced by the works of Tohaku Hasegawa, an artist from the 16th century. Hiroshi’s work has received awards in the graphic art field in Japan, USA and Canada. He had over 20 individual exhibitions, in both Japan and Canada.

Built in 1892, this historical building still stands today with its dignified character surrounded by modern buildings. Sunflowers bloom in all their glory in the hot summer weather. It gives me courage seeing their positive attitude while facing the sun. Somehow there is one sunflower that looks lonely. Food is a theme that I continuously paint as I appreciate its support throughout our lives. I drew this painting with much gratitude. Watching a pair of ducks swimming together gives me a peace of mind.
