Scrivsland: March 2015
http://scrivsland.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 31 March 2015. Chain of Command Espana at Cannon 2015. For the show at Cannon this past weekend we had originally planned to roll out the mountain and recreate the Battle of Agordat, unfortunately, at the last minute real life got in the way and James Morris was not going to be able to make it. So, last Monday I stepped into the breech and offered to do a Spanish Civil War game. Myself, Matt, Tom and James - oh dear! Here are the force handouts that I created:. Sargento, Junior Leader, armed wit...

Scrivsland: July 2014
http://scrivsland.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, 27 July 2014. You may have to bear with this post as it is that first time I have attempted a post using the tablet. A week or so agi I picked up a second hand, but unpainted Type 97 Chi-Ha tank from Warlord Games. After assembly and cleaning up I first primered with Halfords grey primer then a coat of Army Painter Leather Brown. After being allowed to dry the whole model was washed with Sepia Wash. I went back over the stripe with Golden Brown. Labels: Battle of Meiktila. Saturday, 26 July 2014.

Scrivsland: Verdun Road Trip - Part One
http://scrivsland.blogspot.com/2015/08/verdun-road-trip-part-one.html
Sunday, 9 August 2015. Verdun Road Trip - Part One. Last November, on the way back from Crisis in Antwerp James and I decided that for this year we would work on a game based on the 1916 Battle of Verdun. We mulled over a few gaming possibilities, the initial attacks against Colonel Driants positions in Bois Des Caures, a dungeon crawl at Fort Douaumont, the heroic defence of Fort Vaux, the struggles on Mort Homme, plus lots of other options. We boarded Le Shuttle at our allotted time and were soon in Ca...

Scrivsland: Flank Attack against the dogged Tommies
http://scrivsland.blogspot.com/2015/08/flank-attack-against-dogged-tommies.html
Thursday, 6 August 2015. Flank Attack against the dogged Tommies. I did not get much of a chance to write this up last week what with the trip to Verdun and all, but on Tuesday Lee and I played another game of Chain of Command WWI pitting my Bosche against his Tommies. Playing out the Patrol Phase well my Germans did rather well and were in a position to jump off straight into one of the British trenches, maybe we would not be in for such a hard ride. The MG/08 soon joined in the fun and the Tommies were...

Sea Kings and Horse Warriors: Nashcon 2015
http://seakingsaga.blogspot.com/2015/05/nashcon-2015.html
Sea Kings and Horse Warriors. Wargaming and History from the Whale Road to the Silk Road. Sunday, May 31, 2015. I am a little late getting my pictures up from Nashcon on May 22nd. I drove up early Saturday morning - it was only about a 2 1/2 hour drive. The SAGA tournament was fun, but a little sparse in turnout. My first match was Normans against Vikings. Here my eight Sergeants crash into a unit of six Viking hearthguard. And only one survivor per side. It was funny being told before we began that we w...

Sea Kings and Horse Warriors: November 2014
http://seakingsaga.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sea Kings and Horse Warriors. Wargaming and History from the Whale Road to the Silk Road. Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Open Combat by Carl Brown. Open Combat by Carl Brown is a new miniature rule system released through his website and company Second Thunder. Having heard about the game from a couple of my favorite podcasts, Meeples and Miniatures. Initially, I was a bit perplexed by the lack of lists or standards? What is the typical defense value for a Viking in chain mail? Initiative is the usual IGY...

Sea Kings and Horse Warriors: MacBeth in film, drama and wargaming
http://seakingsaga.blogspot.com/2015/06/macbeth.html
Sea Kings and Horse Warriors. Wargaming and History from the Whale Road to the Silk Road. Friday, June 19, 2015. MacBeth in film, drama and wargaming. MacBeth has been hovering at the edge of my awareness lately for several reasons. Perhaps it is the upcoming movie with Fassbender, which seems to be as much influenced by Game of Thrones and TV's Vikings as by William Shakespeare. MacBeth in History and Shakespeare. Mac Bethad mac Findláich,. Shakespeare's play The Tragedy of Macbeth. Intriguing influence...

Scrivsland: Verdun Road Trip - Part Two
http://scrivsland.blogspot.com/2015/08/verdun-road-trip-part-2.html
Sunday, 9 August 2015. Verdun Road Trip - Part Two. Following on from the earlier post. Again I awoke early, but this time James was awake too so leaving Nick to his snores we set off to explore the Vauban fortress that I had found a few minutes walk from our campsite. This time we are having a proper explore and decide to do a circuit. Just by the works I had found yesterday was the entrance that must have been the first view our troops in 1916 had of Verdun after travelling down Voie Sacrée. This gate ...
