March 2, 2014. Right in the middle of the prestigious Leadenhall Market lies the cozy Lamb Tavern. When Sir Hugh Neville started a modest market, which would soon expand, he must have needed a place to grab a drink after a long days work as the pub dates from 1309, which is the same year as the market itself. The original building, however, did not survive the London Fire and was rebuilt in 1790. The Lamb lies right on top of where the Roman basilica used to be, the home of law and business of its time.

There has been a pub on this site since the 17th-century but the current Punch Tavern was finished in 1887 in time for Queen Victoria to drive past on her way to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee at St Paul’s. The pubs dark oak panelling, ornate fireplaces and a series of Punch and Judy themed paintings from the late 1800s survived the war and are still on display today.
