Ellis Island, Lady Liberty, and Liberty Point 6-10-10. June 10, 2010. We were given bags of items, and had to guess who the items belonged to and what they were used for; then we were given a document that gave us additional clues – our items were a head mirror, and surgical tools, and our document was about procedures in an operating room; we learned that we were doctors! Some of us went to see the Statue of Liberty; it is somewhat disappointing that we couldn’t climb up into her crown (tickets ca...

Sin in the Second City. April 5, 2009. What does Karen Abbott’s. Sin in the Second City. Tell us about gender in turn-of-the20th-Century Chicago. In the forefront of the 20. Century, women’s roles were governed by the status of their men; women did not have the same career opportunities. If a woman was married to someone with status she didn’t need to work and the family could usually afford to educate their children; including their daughter(s). He became interested in Lincoln we he received a free brochure at a Lincoln anniversary celebration; he’s loved Lincoln ever since. As you travel through the streets of Gettys...

In the late 1800’s Chicago was undergoing some huge changes that had upper and lower classes of society ready for anything. Men and women of lower class immigrant workers and their supporters were tired of the employer’s refusal to listen to the working men’s requests for shorter work. Days and higher wages. This was not happening just in Chicago, but it seemed to be on a larger scale in that city. Both wante...

Many books about our sixteenth president delve into a single aspect of his life rather then looking at him as a whole. Did Lincoln Own Slaves?
