Bend of the River Chronicle: Easter on the river
http://historyofthevalley.blogspot.com/2012/04/easter-on-river.html
Bend of the River Chronicle. Observations from the Minnesota River Valley. Monday, April 9, 2012. Easter on the river. Trying for some catfish on the Minnesota River on Easter. It may not be an Easter tradition, but spending time at the river isn't a bad one to start. Sunday afternoon - with the sun taking the bite out of a steady wind, and an unusually low flow offering up broad sand bars - was a perfect day to draw a steady stream of people to the Minnesota River at Seven Mile Creek Park.

Bend of the River Chronicle: Camping season popping up

Bend of the River Chronicle. Observations from the Minnesota River Valley. Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Camping season popping up. Campsite A14 offers a perfect view of the river below. I’ve never been to a campground when no one else was camping, but that was where we found ourselves when we went for a mid-week camp-out at Minneopa State Park. The solitude was wonderful — like owning your own sprawling wooded estate. I’ve always loved a pop-up camper — compact, more luxury than a tent but with. It lets you exp...
Bend of the River Chronicle: The eaglets have landed -- and they're big babies
http://historyofthevalley.blogspot.com/2012/07/eaglettes-have-landed-and-theyre-big.html
Bend of the River Chronicle. Observations from the Minnesota River Valley. Sunday, July 1, 2012. The eaglets have landed - and they're big babies. The young bald eagles in Seven Mile Creek Park are flying well, but still dependent on their parents. It's been more than 10 weeks since the bald eagles on the Minnesota River at Seven Mile Creek Park began feeding their hatchling(s), but we hadn't been able to see the young in the nest on the other side of the river. Even knowing how fast they grow, the sibli...
Bend of the River Chronicle: Granite raiders of the Minnesota River

Bend of the River Chronicle. Observations from the Minnesota River Valley. Monday, April 2, 2012. Granite raiders of the Minnesota River. Granite outcropping on the Minnesota River near Redwood Falls. There is beauty all along the 335-miles of the Minnesota River, but nothing compares to the stretch from Ortonville - at the start of the river on the South Dakota border - down through Granite Falls and Redwood Falls. So local residents in western Minnesota are none to happy a mining company. And ferried c...

Thoughts and insights on current events and trends from the corner office. Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Final word: Lessons learned from my knee replacement. It's now officially three weeks since my knee replacement and I'm finally easing back into the mainstream. The operative word here is easing. It will be half days of work for a little while. I feel extraordinarily blessed being on the receiving end of a great surgical procedure and now attentive physical therapy at OFC. I would have done more stretchin...

Thoughts and insights on current events and trends from the corner office. Friday, December 21, 2012. An opportunity blown; an icon's luster tarnished. The National Rifle Association, handed a golden opportunity to be a thoughtful participant in a national discussion on responsible gun ownership, instead came out in Friday's " press conference. People who criticize semi-automatic weapons can't even get the correct nomenclature down! And the .223 caliber as powerful? What a surprise. What a waste. It was ...

Thoughts and insights on current events and trends from the corner office. Saturday, July 28, 2012. Caution: Knee surgery results, therapy not for squeamish. It's Day Five since my knee replacement. I've been to the grocery store (briefly), had lunch at a pizzeria and helped straighten up my home office. I'm also lucky because I waited too long for the surgery. I was in such great pain before the surgery, the recovery is less painful and at least now I know this is an end. Replacing a knee is not for the...

Thoughts and insights on current events and trends from the corner office. Friday, July 13, 2012. The long saga returns: Another new knee. If I could go back in time, I would tell the younger me to knock it off. A lubricant, that helped a little while waiting for the most opportune time for the surgery. It had to be when my wife could take time off to help in the recovery. Men can be such wimps. Meanwhile, because I couldn't exercise, I ballooned in weight and that just put more pressure on the knee....

Thoughts and insights on current events and trends from the corner office. Tuesday, July 31, 2012. KatoKnee: Just when you think it's OK, it's really not. On the one-week anniversary of the knee surgery, I was feeling pretty good. My movement around the house was smooth. I didn't need the walker and many times didn't need the cane. While I still haven't been sleeping well, it seemed I had enough energy to test some limits. I rushed through the agenda as quickly as I could and made my way back to the offi...

History of the Word
History of the Word. Saturday, April 9, 2011. A New "Ancient" Text. It seems that the wonderful world of science has been hard at work in making history; 10,000 year old history to be exact. There has been a finding of an ancient piece of pottery. Which is believed to be from the historical town called Neta'im. Mentioned in the Holy Bible in 1st Chronicles 4:23. It is widely accepted by scholars who study both the Dead Sea Scrolls (At Qumran) and the equally ancient Nash Papyrus, believe that papyrus.
