It's a Mystery to Me...

Call it crime, call it mystery, call it genre or even sub-genre. I like variety - an unholy mix of historical, noir, CSI, police procedural, classic English, unusual settings and detectives, occasional cosies - no serial killers, no crafts, no mysteries solved by pets, please...Oh and I also shun the undead... And those who can see or talk to them! Please!

Skunk Cat Book Reviews: I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett

http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2012/01/i-shall-wear-midnight-by-terry.html

Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Sunday, January 29, 2012. I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett. It took me a while to get around to this one because the Tiffany Aching. Books have never been my favorite Discworld series. But I was really surprised with this one. Maybe because Tiffany's older in this one (sixteen, I think, or almost sixteen), the book has a darker, more sophisticated tone. Reviews by KC Shaw. January 30, 2012 at 11:05 AM. Skunk Cat Book Reviews: October 2011

http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Monday, October 31, 2011. This was a total impulse buy. I just got paid and I was in the book store, saw a book by Penn Jillette about atheism, and thought, "Hey, sounds fun! I was expecting an interesting, thoughtful, funny discussion of Penn's atheism and how it's affected his life. In short, it's a wankery of a memoir, not at all what I expected. I was disappointed, since it's not entertaining enough as a memoir and not intelligent enough as a discussion of atheism. I w...To in...

Skunk Cat Book Reviews: Beyond the Grave by Mara Purnhagen

http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2012/01/beyond-grave-by-mara-purnhagen.html

Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Thursday, January 26, 2012. Beyond the Grave by Mara Purnhagen. This is the last book in this series, which consists of three actual books and two novellas that take place between the books' events. I didn't read the second novella, since I found the first one. I have read the other two books, though. I really liked the first one, Past Midnight. And was disappointed with the second, One Hundred Candles. The problems that I saw in the second book are still present in this one, unfo...

Skunk Cat Book Reviews: Gemini Bites by Patrick Ryan

http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2012/01/gemini-bites-by-patrick-ryan.html

Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Saturday, January 28, 2012. Gemini Bites by Patrick Ryan. I think this is what you might call the highest of all high concept novels. It's a lot of fun, too. The story is told from both twins' points of view in alternating chapters. Kyle is a nice guy, and Judy is not very nice at all- but she's an oddly sympathetic character. And Garret is fascinating. Skunk Cat Book Reviews: June 2011

http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Saturday, June 25, 2011. Magic by the Lake by Edward Eager. This review will be short. I apologize for that. I'd go into why, but this isn't my personal blog. I love Edward Eager's books, particularly Half Magic. Which Magic by the Lake. Is a sequel to. Eager's style is purposefully similar to E. Nesbit, which he greatly admired, and his stories are charming, clever, inventive, and funny, with realistic children and magic that has unexpected consequences. Links to this post. Also ...

Skunk Cat Book Reviews: July 2011

http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Friday, July 29, 2011. Hammered by Kevin Hearne. This is the third book in this series, which I've enjoyed a lot so far. I like that the first three books, which form a sort of trilogy, were published in successive months. There will be a wait for the next book, but I can handle it. Follows up on the promises made in the previous two books,. Anyway, the book is still a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to the next one. Links to this post. Reviews by KC Shaw. Skunk Cat Book Reviews: December 2011

http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Wednesday, December 28, 2011. The Unscratchables by Cornelius Kane. Here's one of those weird books that don't fit into any real category. It's a hard-boiled mystery peopled (ahem) entirely with cats and dogs. Intelligent ones. That wear clothes and carry guns and walk on their hind legs and wear shoes. No, I couldn't quite get my head around it either, but the book is surprisingly fun. Links to this post. Reviews by KC Shaw. Sunday, December 25, 2011. Links to this post. One of m...

Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Wake Unto Me by Lisa Cach. Oh, Goodreads recommendations, I love you so much and yet you recommend such crap at times. Starts off with an unnecessary prologue (aren't they all unnecessary? The book almost lost me there too. I hate. The notion of soul mates, especially in YA fiction. Look, there are seven freaking billion people in the world; I think there's a possibility more than one of them might be a good match for any given person. Most of the art...

Skunk Cat Book Reviews: A Rum Affair by Karl Sabbagh

http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2012/01/rum-affair-by-karl-sabbagh.html

Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Monday, January 30, 2012. A Rum Affair by Karl Sabbagh. Who would have guessed that the world of academic botany was such a seething cauldron of intrigue? While it's readable and interesting, it's not exactly riveting. It would have been easy to put the book down and never pick it back up. I'm glad I didn't, though. Reviews by KC Shaw. I believe Eric Dawson first told me the joke:. Q: Why do academics fight so much? A: Because theres so little at stake. February 1, 2012 at 10:27 AM.

Hit or Mrs.

My relationship with fashion - a public display of affection. Happy St. Patty’s day! Carlie’s Birthday dress… Can you tell it’s Lalaloopsy themed? Hit or Mrs. - My Nana Would Approve. I picked up these pants a few months ago at the Gap and they’ve been sitting in my closet ever since. Their some overly practical polyester blend with a nice stretchy waistband. This is definetly something I picture on my grandma Nana complete with a printed sweatshirt and polo dicky. I would love to know what you think!
