The puja also is the biggest exam for students who are learning the entire text of prayers. Each day there is a different leader. Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Washing Machines and Bose Sound Systems. As I hear the washing machine in the background and listen to Enya. I realize just how far away I was. Much farther than miles. Washing my clothes by hand in a bucket of cold water was partly doable because I only had to wash 2-3 times a week as I wore my clothes for at least three days. Monday, November 30, 2009. On the flight into Tribuvan, the lovely Korean Air hostesses pass out multiple papers to be filled in. One paper states that if carrying more than 2 pens or pencils, one should proceed to the "red channel". Oh boy, I am so over the limit, but I'll take the green channel. I mean why make a fuss over a gross of pencils and multiple pens? Commence to luggage pick-up. Grab 2 bags off carousel, head to long line at customs. What? Another wave, RIGHT THROUGH CUSTOMS, no luggage check?

Thursday, November 10, 2011. World in harmony" is the translation of the Sanskrit word "mandala". Mandalas are drawings in three-dimensional forms created from colored sand. In Tibetan, this art is called dul-tson-kyil-khor. Which means “mandala of colored powders.”. At Pema Ts'al many monks worked many hours to create this particular mandala.They used an illustration for their guide. The sand granules are then applied using small tubes, funnels, and scrapers.
