Hoberg's Historical Association. Turn of the Century. Turn of the Century. The Hoberg's Family Ranch. Gustav and Mathilda Hoberg homesteaded the Hoberg’s property in 1885 and lived there with their five children. The hotel business was started a few years later when travelers would reach the Hoberg’s ranch, stop over to rest their horses and enjoy a bountiful home-cooked meal. A bowling alley, swimming pool and social hall were erected where guests could dance to a three piece orchestra.

In September of 2015, a wildfire started that would burn for months and eventually consume over 76,000 acres of the mountainous and lush environment in south Lake County, CA. many landmarks and historic buildings were destroyed as the flames forged their path through the wilderness, including Hoberg’s Resort. Clear Lake is a natural freshwater lake in Lake County, California and is fed by runoff flowing into many streams as well as springs in Soda Bay. Very productive and scenic, Clear Lake is a lush paradise for fish and wildlife. The high productivity of the Clear Lake Basin attracted Native Americans early in their settlement of North America. Archeological evidence indicates human habitation around Clear Lake for the past 12,000 years.

Then, Now, and Onward. October 15th, 2014. By 1888, millionaires and movie stars were frequenting Hoberg’s, including the infamous actress and royal paramour Lillie Langtry. In the 1920s, Luther Burbank, the famous American botanist, also was a frequent guest. 1950’s to 1970’s. 1970 s to 2000 s. In 1971, Hoberg’s was purchased by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the man who, together with the Beatles, popularized transcendental meditation. Then, Now, and Onward.
