In the east, actually in Chaina and in Japan, we enjoy looking up at the fullmoon which is called ` otsukimi '. We have this custom since very early times, but now, It's based on Chinese style. We also place offerings - Susuki (Japanese silver grass) and rice dumplings. This is a pic of Japanese silver grasses. I have never seen anything like this. Higan - the word `Higan' meaning is `the other shore' in Buddhism, nirvana. We have two times of Ohigan in a year, - two periods of seven days with the middle day falling on the spring or autumn equinox. During ohigan, the spirits of forebears are recalled, Buddhist rites carried out, and family graves are visited.
