The Life of a Caver

The Life of a Caver. The interesting life of an Idahoan exploring the eerie underworld of the United States. Monday, December 9, 2013. The day to finally have my first adventure in the TAG (Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia) caving region was here! My friend Jon picked me up from the airport in Chattanooga Wednesday night and we spent the night at my Aunt Laurie's house in Ocoee, TN. The next morning we loaded up our gear and headed down to Alabama. I felt pretty proud of myself. I had just pushed fear out...

The Life of a Caver. The interesting life of an Idahoan exploring the eerie underworld of the United States. Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Just wanted to upload a few pictures that other cavers got from the trip. Especially a couple that Brent took. He does extremely well at cave photography! Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Saddle Butte Day 3. There would be two drops in this cave, both about 15-20 feet in height. The second drop would have a nasty lip to negotiate. It took a while for Brent and Errin to come out of...

The Life of a Caver. The interesting life of an Idahoan exploring the eerie underworld of the United States. Thursday, December 29, 2011. Yes, a post that is not about caving. Wednesday I came back up to NKY. I had spent Christmas in Nashville with my caving friend David Intal. And our plan was to meet Rachael and her brother Richard in Corbin, KY, and from there we would go to Cumberland Falls. We got there and the water was very high. We sat down in the sun and ate. Rachael had made some bread and ...

The Life of a Caver. The interesting life of an Idahoan exploring the eerie underworld of the United States. Tuesday, May 8, 2012. I did do some exploring of a new section. I found a place where the ceiling had collapsed during the cave's formation. I found holes to climb up into and follow the rock layers. After a while I came back down and our group rejoined up. When we reached the big main entrance I saw that we couldn't get out without getting our feet wet. So I jumped in and waded across. Sinks of t...

The Life of a Caver. The interesting life of an Idahoan exploring the eerie underworld of the United States. Sunday, August 28, 2011. Sinks of the Roundstone. Long time no see. I must say, it was nice not being the leader of a caving trip, for a change. I didn't have the responsibility to worry about. The occasion was Jason and Tina's birthday. Drew decided to do a small caving trip. It was just to this "boring" easy cave, but it was still a fun time. Looking back towards the main entrance). We left Kent...

Life on 2.68 acres. The rest of our trip. September 3, 2015. The next morning we woke up to a lot of smoke. While I cooked breakfast, Harold started packing up the tent and all of our camping equipment. We got the suburban packed up and then headed out. We went to Challis and stopped for some ice. South of Challis we stopped at Bayhorse, a ghost town that was founded in 1877. It was a nice break to get out and walk around. This building had been sided and roofed with flattened cans. Life on 2.68 acres. It has been awhile. July 25, 2015. We have been enjoying some cooler weather the last couple of weeks. We have been in the 80s most of the time. It has been nice to not be running the swamp cooler all the time. We have been busy with things here at home and getting Josie ready for college. Finally today, we finished all our her shopping that we are helping her with. She still has to buy her textbooks and laptop. About half way up. Close to the top. The hand grips were very hot&#46...

Life on 2.68 acres. June 9, 2015. It is hard to believe that Josie has graduated. She was ready to be done with high school. She started working with Emily at a local produce stand/fields. Right now they are spending their time hoeing corn, and planting some peppers and tomatoes. Today they started at 7:00 and got off at 3:00. It sure helps with the near hundred degrees that we hit today. Emily took this picture of Josie before the ceremony began. May 25, 2015. This afternoon we have been busy doing diff...

Life on 2.68 acres. We try to raise most of the things that we eat. We have a huge garden and an orchard of 14 fruit trees. We have a raspberry patch, a strawberry patch, two blackberry patches, and several grape vines in three different areas of our property. We raise steers, pigs, turkeys, and chickens for meat. We also raise chickens for eggs. We have about 1/2 acre or so of alfalfa for the animals. We let our chickens out in the pasture to roam in the afternoons. Blogs I enjoy reading. Life of a Caver.

Life on 2.68 acres. Happy 4th of July. July 4, 2015. We were all off Friday for the holiday. We were up early and outside mowing the lawn by 7:00. Emily worked on weeding the front flower bed and Josie helped me mow the lawn. We were done early and then I came inside and made breakfast for us. I got a couple of loads of laundry done and hung up outside. Harold has started building a wood shed so that we can have some dry wood in the winter.
