Sunday, June 28, 2009. I have posted photos from my China trip in response to demands. I will go back and post photos from previous trips when I return to Penang next month. This was the view from our hotel room in North Point - with the bus station, the ferry terminal and then Kowloon in the distance. The tram terminus was behind our hotel. We took a tram back to Central then. Took one of the Star Ferries from Central across to Tsim Sha Tsui on the Kowloon peninsula. We visited the Avenue of Stars.

Saturday, June 30, 2007. I had a very enjoyable holiday based in Arles in 1991. It is only 20 minutes by train from Avignon so I had to visit the town again. I stayed here in the Hotel Calendal in 1991 - in a one room cottage (with bathroom) rather than in the main building. I enjoyed having breakfast in the garden or relaxing there with a book in the late afternoon. As you can see, my hotel was only a short distance from the Roman arena. The entrance to a small park lies just beside this gift shop.

Monday, July 16, 2007. I don't normally take a Tourist Train like this but I used it to get my bearings and a feel for the city shortly after my arrival on 3rd June. It took me to places I later visited on foot. This is the Préfecture in the Place des Martyrs de la Résistance. It is the administrative headquarters for the Département de l'Hérault. Montpellier is the capital. The 'Three Graces' fountain. This impressive building is the Palais de Justice. Could you have guessed from its classical style?

Wednesday, October 22, 2008. This is the Berlner Dom - the cathedral. It took almost 40 years to restore after damage in World War 2. While walking towards the cathedral I noticed a sign advertising river cruises with a commentary in English. I was soon on board enjoying a view of the city from the open deck. Tuesday, June 23, 2009. We arrived in Xi'an in the early afternoon of 15 May and took a taxi to our hotel. My first impressions weren't good. On leaving the airport expressway, we passed mile after mile of industrial buildings, power stations and some drab apartment blocks. This is the Bell Tower - built in 1582. Wednesday, November 14, 2007. I learned that the ongoing drought was a major problem in every part of Australia. Every hotel room contained advice about saving water and I did my best not to use too much. I learned that Australians really are passionate about sport - it dominates television. The quality of food is very high. Having seen the portion sizes in restaurants, I can understand why many older Australians have 'spare tyres' - particularly those who enjoy a drop of the amber liquid.
