Nothing is better than being gone all day out in the wilderness, exploring new country on my favorite horse. When I moved to Oregon I realized there was not a lot of info to be found about horse camps and trails. Holly Blogs Her Adventures. Thursday, June 23, 2016. Boyd Cave to Swamp Wells Horse Camp. The general area of Horse Butte. And the Deschutes National Forest surrounding it, has a myriad of trails to choose from. There are a few ways to get to Swamp Wells Horse Camp, but a good long loop ride can be done by parking near Boyd Cave and riding from there. It is one of the shorter versions, although still 17.5 miles round trip. Swamp Wells Horse Camp. The Coyote Loop Trail starts directly across China Hat Rd.

Holly Blogs Her Adventures. Sunday, June 7, 2015. Round Mountain Trail, Ochoco National Forest. The Ochoco's are great for riding in the spring/early summer, since the snow melts there long before our higher country. It can be muddy if you get there too early, although it was not a problem this year with our especially dry winter. The trail head for Round Mountain South is at the end of the parking area. This is also where you park for the Independent Mine Loop and Lookout Mt. Round Mountain trail head.

Holly Blogs Her Adventures. Saturday, November 7, 2015. Dry Creek Horse Camp, Ochoco National Forest. Well my high country riding is over for this season, but a trip into the Ochoco's is. Always a good choice. I've never actually camped here since I live close enough to drive over for the day. I usually ride here in the spring, since snow melt happens early, but this is a nice November ride as well. The Ochoco's need to be dry for good riding, if it is wet the ground becomes extremely muddy and slippery.

Last year I couldn't make it but this year I was able to fit it in. I had been there before about 5 years ago but there a lot of trails, and I certainly hadn't seen the whole area yet.
