Karen O'Connor Clinic(s): January 2009
http://kocclinic.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 12, 2009. What a Long Strange Trip it's Been! Now, part of the reason that my head is exploding (even still) is that some of what I learned flew in the face of what I’d learned elsewhere, and what I’d been practicing both on my own and with other clinicians/instructors. What happens when ideas and world view collide? I have to say that I was a bit…overwhelmed? Karen wanted us to have our hands on the horse’s withers: NO CREST RELEASES IN XC. We practiced raising and lowering our bodies fr...

Kathleen Zins Clinic: Day One: Stadium Jumping
http://ktzclinic.blogspot.com/2008/11/day-one-stadium-jumping.html
Saturday, November 22, 2008. Day One: Stadium Jumping. Kathleen began the session by asking the riders what it took to move up—and, conversely, what keeps you at a level. Several of the riders answered thoughtfully: a lot of impulsion….keeping your horse underneath yourself….lots of leg….technique…remembering stuff…. Kathleen nodded, then told them her version, which encompassed all of what the riders were saying:. Kathleen asked another interesting question: Why do horses let us ride them? So every day ...

Nick Larkin Clinic: August 2009
http://nicklarkinclinic.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 15, 2009. It's All About the Canter! It can be hot in TX, but we were lucky; a breeze wafted through the trees, and for at least part of the day, the clouds covered the sun. The groups today were going to work on stadium jumping. In typical Nick Larkin fashion, each group began with "Righty-Oh. Tell me what you've done and where you're trying to go.". Nick watched the first group, the preliminary group, warm up, and while watching each rider, he makes the following observations:. After f...

Kathleen Zins Clinic: November 2008
http://ktzclinic.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 23, 2008. Day Two: Cross Country. Today began much like yesterday, with Kathleen asking questions to prep the riders for what they would face. What are the rider's responsibilities (direction, speed, balance)? Several of us needed to put our horses together before fences rather than just "point and shoot" (as one experienced rider put it, "If I'm scared before a fence, I just push with my legs to let the horse know we're going to take this! We do this NOT by pulling on the reins, but by ...

Kathleen Zins Clinic: Introduction
http://ktzclinic.blogspot.com/2008/11/introduction.html
Saturday, November 22, 2008. After ending the "season" on a high note (I actually WON the Senior Novice class at Las Cruces Horse Trials! I was really looking forward to the clinic with Kathleen Zins. At what is perhaps my favorite venue, Greenwood Farm. I had learned a LOT this fall as I moved up to Novice, and I was hoping to solidify what I'd learned, and perhaps push myself a bit. I was NOT disappointed! Because I'd learned so much by blogging my experiences auditing the David O'Connor clinic.

Nick Larkin Clinic: January 2009
http://nicklarkinclinic.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 26, 2009. Wow I am now officially a Nick Larkin. It will be hard for me to describe what this clinic was like—but it wasn’t like being in a clinic, really. It was like having a lesson with your coach, who knows you (almost too well). The man has an uncanny way of sizing up horse and rider, and then helping them do things that they had no idea they could do. All in all, what a HUGE confidence builder! Thanks to Christie Tull and Greenwood Farm. For hosting this clinic. 8220;Try not to wigg...

Nick Larkin Clinic: Fall Clinic....is that Foreshadowing?
http://nicklarkinclinic.blogspot.com/2009/08/fall-clinicis-that-foreshadowing.html
Friday, August 14, 2009. Fall Clinic.is that Foreshadowing? I enjoyed working with Nick Larkin so much this spring at Greenwood that, when I heard he was coming to Roadrunner Farm, I jumped (ha) at the chance to work with him again. Karen LeKashmand and Jan Micchie went the extra mile for me, since I had mentioned I might bring two horses, then realized I could only ride one well.they are the salt of the earth. Good folks. Sigh Almost all of my horses have large ears. 2 BE QUIET and effective. View my co...
