Traditional dovetailed infill planes. The 11-SA High Angle Infill Smoother. The original Norris mitre planes had a bed angle of 20° and this in combination with an average honing angle of 30° gives an angle of attack of 50°. This angle (slightly steeper than the usual 45°) is best suited to smoothing and is known to a few as York pitch. Plane makers have found that high angles of attack produce planes with less tendency to tear the wood when working with difficult hardwoods. The plane is 6.

Traditional dovetailed infill planes. The A6 Smoother (Parallel) Infill plane. This is an overstuffed infill plane of the traditional Norris type, having a short sole 7½ long. This pattern was also used by several other infill makers including Spiers and Mathieson. All these manufactures used dovetails as this plane lends itself to this construction. Traditional dovetailed infill planes. The A28 Chariot Infill Plane. This plane is once again based on the Norris pattern which was usually cast gunmetal with a sweated on steel sole. This plane is a good all round finishing plane especially in confined areas, as it has a very narrow toe of only ½. It can be used easily with one hand. Traditional dovetailed infill planes. The A13 Smoother Infill plane. The A13 smoother is another classic dovetailed infill plane, in the style of Norris. The A13 was originally only made by Norris but was a casting and not dovetailed. It was produced in two variants - the A13 with an adjuster and the No.13 without. Not many of these planes were made and an original Norris A13/No 13 is considered a rarity by collectors. The original A13 did have some nice contours but in my version I have enhanced them...

Traditional dovetailed infill planes. A Dovetailed A27 Bullnose Infill Plane. At long last these six bullnose planes are complete. It had been my intention to make this plane for a long time and I must confess that this project has been a bit of a vanity exercise. I am not aware of dovetailing having been used for this type of plane before. This is a very delicate plane and its use is very specialised - certainly not recommended for the shuttering carpenter!
