Design by: P.Truscott. P Truscott and Holymoorside History Society 2009. Possibly due to the use of the land at Harewood Grange by monks from Beauchief Abbey. The moor became known as ‘Holy Moor’. Named after Howley Corn Mill at the bottom of Loads Road, much more central to the village. This is described in 17th and 18th century documents as ‘Holley Milne’ and ‘Howley Milne’, and one of the adjacent fields is known as ‘Howley Cliffe’.
