Holywell Birding: July 2009

http://holywellbirding.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, 26 July 2009. Yesterday I was watching my little sister, first we were at the cinemas seeing the new Ice Age which was pretty good, but afterwards nothing was planned. As I'm. Always up for an adventure and seeing new places so I got my Morpeth. Out and found somewhere interesting, which turned out to be Old Park Wood just outside of Netherwitton. I picked a mate up which came prepared as always, due to my tendency. To go to remote locations for a good few hours, and off the three of us went.

Holywell Birding: March 2009

http://holywellbirding.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, 21 March 2009. Been ill since Tuesday due to my mothers shoddy cooking, couldn't stand being in the house anymore so off I went to Holywell. I went via Earsdon. Pit to see if the Little Owl was about, unfortunately it wasn't, although a Chiff Chaff was singing from the willows. Saw a couple of Yellowhammers between here and the Pond but not much else. 9 Wigeon, 4 Teal, 6 Pochard. 7 Coot, and 5 Moorhen. A pair of Greylag. Wren, Pheasant and a cracking Male Reed Bunting. Sorry no pics this time.

Holywell Birding: May 2009

http://holywellbirding.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, 17 May 2009. Been hammering the Revision lately so never been down to the pond for a couple of weeks. Heavy rains and warm weather with migrants dropping in at Holy Island , thought I would take a visit in the gap of the down pours. I'm glad I did. Got down at about 18:30 first a pair of Common Terns. Overhead, patch tick for the year. Also there was a Whitethroat. Singing in hawthorn opposite Houses. With the usual crowd of Starlings. And the House Sparrows. And 1 Sedge Warbler. This was the fir...

Holywell Birding: April 2009

http://holywellbirding.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, 26 April 2009. A Weekends Worth of Holywell. Sorry for the lack of updates recently the Outdoors is starting to take a backseat and revision taking over, I need to get three C's to get into the Wildlife and Media degree at Penrith. Really starting to hammer the revision. Friday the 24 th. School at half 12, so I took the afternoon off for an hour at Holywell. And a reply of 'Yes, a Goosesander. Sure enough there was a female Goosesander. I was sent some pictures. The Canada X Greylag. Form the ho...

Rowlands Gill Birder: A Trip Up the Coast was not Disappointing!

http://rowlandsgillbirder.blogspot.com/2010/03/trip-up-coast-was-not-disappointing_05.html

Friday, 5 March 2010. A Trip Up the Coast was not Disappointing! Organised a day trip up the. With Ewan "The Useless" Miles. To go see some birdies. Ewan has gained this nickname as he is absolutely pants at organising. I mean he couldn't organise flies to fly round dog doo! Anyway set off mine at around 11am and headed for Longhirst Flash in hope of a lingering Bewick’s Swan. Arrived to find 36 Whooper Swan. On the fields behind the flash and in the foreground a Magpie. And a Carrion Crow. Were reported...

Rowlands Gill Birder: December 2009

http://rowlandsgillbirder.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, 26 December 2009. First Post of the Blog. Hello all, my name is Gary Storey and am new to blogging but not to the reading of several north-east birding related blogs and a few farther afield. I like to think that I am a competant birder, with 15 years experience. However, I have only really started getting into all the 'ups' and 'downs' of the twitching malarky that comes with the mad dash. Which had been flushed from their roost by first a Common Buzzard. Yaffling call. I have been up on t...

Expedition Ardnamurchan: Fort William

http://expeditionardnamurchan.blogspot.com/2011/04/fort-william.html

Thursday, 21 April 2011. Today the expedition members travelled back to civilisation, in the form of Fort William, to stock up on food for the coming weeks camping. We didn't collect any footage or stills today, but we did manage to stop off at the wildlife hide overlooking Loch Sunart, a number of Common Seal were present and a White-Tailed Eagle flew overhead. Rowlands Gill Birder: Shibdon Pond & Thornley Woods

http://rowlandsgillbirder.blogspot.com/2010/01/shibdon-pond-thornley-woods.html

Wednesday, 20 January 2010. Shibdon Pond and Thornley Woods. Started off my half a days birding by heading over to Shibdon Pond. I have been meaning to go here for some time, but the. That has been there since the 10th of January was the final kick up the backside to head down. So I walked down towards the "feeding area" and came across the Goose straight away feeding with a flock of. On the short grass. I always find it funny seeing Moorhen so tame here, their not their usual self. I moved on from Shibd...

Rowlands Gill Birder: A Little Bit Marshy

http://rowlandsgillbirder.blogspot.com/2010/06/little-bit-marshy.html

Tuesday, 8 June 2010. A Little Bit Marshy. Well this is my first blog entry in a while but I have a good explanation. I was in a pretty bad car accident just outside Carlisle on the 16th April. I was on way home from a great day out at Bassenthwaite then the rest is history really. Tractor drivers who don't indicate and think they own the road need an old fashioned talking to! Anyway I went out Birding properly since the accident. I went out with (Cain) Holywell Birder. Near the Derwent Reservoir. June m...

Monday, 9 May 2011. Insert Belated Blog Post Title Here*. Well I think I am going to give this blog writing another bash. I would like to be able to look back at old blog entries in years to come and remember each birding outing in as much detail as possible. I went up to the one and only Miles. Residence on Thursday 5. LEO, What a beauty. So I will end this blog post like that. I will soon update about a great trip to Leighton Moss. And some immense Lightning Storms. 14 May 2011 at 00:36. Its about time .

Wednesday, 27 April 2011. Here is a post to update you now we have now regained internet access. Day 8- We arrived at the camp site mid morning and pitched up to the sounds of sedge warblers scratching away from the bushes and a cuckoo calling somewhere from the rocky hillside behind us. The campsite is right next to the beach so every morning we wake to the sound of the tide. After pitching up we went for a walk to check the ferry time tables. Manx shearwater taken from the side of the boat. Ciara and R...

Friday, 22 April 2011. Last day at the cottage. We paid a last visit to the Natural History Centre in the morning to check on the pine marten live den footage and heronry live camera. The highland cows had retired to their island for the entire day today content their mischievous deeds against Cain's hide could wait for another day.
