life after travelling

Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Before we sent Mary on her way back to the Midwest we had to go back to one of our favorite climbing places, Jacks Canyon, about 30 miles S of Winslow AZ. It was a lot hotter this time around, so we spent a lot of the days chasing the shade but fantastic climbing. Family portrait- you'll see this one on the x-mas cards. Baxter and Goonie best of chums, when they're sleeping. Michael leading Genesis, super fun 10d. Carefully, carefully now. This was an 11b? Game face number 2.

life after travelling: March 2008

http://homelessfools.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 31, 2008. That was a gate? We took a very relaxing shower in the stream that we parked next to, and decided to set up camp for the night. We spent the next day healing our wounds and hanging out at the Globe library. We went across the street for lunch to this little Mexican restaraunt. I got enchiladas for 3 dollars mmm- and we got horchata too- it was really yummy. We wanted to ride the next day, so we headed towards Payson AZ. Mike in a hurry to get the fire started. Our nice piney view.

Tuesday, March 24, 2009. Goonie: Monster, and Cutie Pie all in a 4-legged package. We stopped at the store to get some dog provisions- the frisbee was his water bowl. That's about the 7th time he had knocked it over in the last half hour. We took him to White Mesa to see how he was going to do off the leash and on the trails and everything. We were pretty excited that he seemed pretty excited to be with us. He's a fast little bugger. Goonie's first mountain bike ride. Luckily, we do have insurance, and a...

Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Riding in Cottonwood April 3rd-8th. Sorry for the lack of updates to our devoted readers-. Here are a couple of videos from the trail we rode in Cottonwood. We liked it so much we ended up riding it for about 5 days. Of course it helped we had a home to come back to in Cottonwood- thanks again to Frannie. Part of what made the trail so fun was the amount of variety in the ride. This is one of the flowey sections with fun swooping turns. We were really impressed with this ride, we...

life after travelling: Finally...more of the end...

http://homelessfools.blogspot.com/2010/01/finally.html

Monday, January 18, 2010. Finally.more of the end. After our fill of Easter candy we hung out and around Tucson for a few days. Free camping spot outside of Tucson, it was nice cause it was so close to town- but not so nice cause it was so close to town. Cactus filled hillside- We were attempting to find a climbing area- long pretty hike, lots of neat rocks, no climbing areas to be found. The red rocks of Sedona AZ. As you can see, Baxter was pretty focused on one thing. More to come soon.

life after travelling: November 2008

http://homelessfools.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Climbing all over the place. While we were in Arkansas we figured we might as well take advantage of the good weather and do some climbing we went back to Jamestown crag, and rappelled down to give Mary some more practice. All the way down there? Graceful as a pig in a blanket. Return of crouching Mary. Sun was setting, and we were climbing away. We ended up staying a little late, it was strange to climb at night, and even stranger to belay from the top. Mary way up there.

bikevomit: 3 MTB life lessons

http://bikevomit.blogspot.com/2013/12/3-mtb-life-lessons.html

Friday, December 6, 2013. 3 MTB life lessons. Focus on the opportunity, not the obstacle. I’m a terrible mountain biker, so this is one I like to learn the hard way. All the time. On every trail there is a section that literally passes between a rock and a hard place (generally a tree). More often than not, I fixate on that rock or hard place, hit one, and Superman over the handlebars. Stop being so negative- take note of obstacles, identify the opportunity around them, and focus on that possibility.

Thursday, October 8, 2009. September 30- October 4: Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim, Project Athena. I'm a little at a loss for words on this, but I felt it was necessary to post something. My loss of words may be because I'm not much of a mushy person. and any descriptions in English are just going to come off mushy. This was an amazing group of people in an amazing setting, all for the purpose of helping others. All the planets aligned; it was the perfect storm. bikevomit: January 2013

http://bikevomit.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 15, 2013. Let's go to prison. So I'm trying to get back in shape. Really, really trying. While in Waterville, IA. For a photo shoot, I decide to detour east a smidge and check out Yellow River State Forest. I do a little research and email back and forth with the DNR to find out that the Luster Heights Unit has trails "groomed for cross country skiing". I make sure to toss my skis in the photo van before heading out. I will ski today. I park in "Visitor Parking" and am starting up the wa...

bikevomit: makin' progress

http://bikevomit.blogspot.com/2009/10/makin-progress.html

Thursday, October 8, 2009. Of note on this race:. 1 Two-mile run epilogue, in which teams receive Map 1 of 6 and passport (for marking obtained CPs). Dennis had a pulled Achilles' tendon, so the run was less than fun for his angry foot. Luckily for us, Dennis and I are total geeks (again, great teammate) and had spent the evening before overlaying the existing maps to determine where CP 1 was on the missing map. That way, we didn't have to stop and plot the UTM coordinates. We were off! 5 The damned padd...

bikevomit: November 2008

http://bikevomit.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 10, 2008. Yesterday was the Old Towne VandeCross, Race #2 of the DICE series ("Double 'I' Cyclocross Experiment", I believe) out in an old Belgian neighborhood in Moline. The weather, up until about Saturday, had been unseasonably warm- 70degF on Wednesday- so when Mother Nature decided to bitch slap us with sub-freezing temps and flurries on Sunday, many of us were caught unprepared. I found myself loaning out more than one piece of winter gear. I also wore my Craft balaclava. Quit your...

bikevomit: January 2010

http://bikevomit.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 25, 2010. Can i get a 'hell yes'? So, last weekend (Jan. 16) was the Frozen Oter Ultra Trek. I attempted this last year and got schooled so hard I stayed out of the woods for weeks. This year- I knew- had to be different. Teammate Kerrie had to bail at the last minute (moving training for a Namibian ultra holidays = no time), so I was on my own. Solo in the woods of Northern Kettle Moraine State Park. For at least five hours of darkness. At the 8 mile CP- it's nice to know that someone ru...

bikevomit: December 2012

http://bikevomit.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 14, 2012. How in the hell did i get a muffin top? Lately, I've noticed in myself the influx of interest in social media that comes with an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. I looked back at my blog for the first time in two years, only to read about the realy cool shit I used to do. I decided I need to do more of it. So I took a solid look in the mirror and stepped on the scale. Holy shit. when did all that happen? I have some serious work to do. But not before I blog about it, of course.

bikevomit: July 2009

http://bikevomit.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 19, 2009. Is it possible to bruise your sternum? This weekend was FORC's first annual series of MTB races at Scott County Park, the Mean Fuzzy. Two days of racing with multiple categories and the good swag that FORC is known for made for a FANTASTIC first event. The course was dry and fast, making for good clean fun. Here's the scene: left handlebar hits tree, recover, right handlebar hits tree, barely recover, small root system finishes me off. Wobble, wobble, whoa! I just felt dirty. I fee...
