Splendor in the Home: The Aftermath of Miscarriage
http://ourordinarylifeextraordinary.blogspot.com/2011/09/aftermath-of-miscarriage.html
Thursday, September 22, 2011. The Aftermath of Miscarriage. I'm so so sorry," she finally said, "but there's no heartbeat." I sucked in my breath, inaudibly, to hold back the tears that were threatening to well up. I would not cry in front of strangers. I didn't want to have to walk out of the building with everyone looking at me, knowing. This morning, I looked back at a calendar to get an idea of roughly when it happened. It was probably in the very week that I found out. I should've listened to my gut...

Splendor in the Home: 7 Quick Takes (Vol. 45)
http://ourordinarylifeextraordinary.blogspot.com/2015/03/7-quick-takes-vol-45.html
Friday, March 13, 2015. 7 Quick Takes (Vol. 45). You know how sometimes you don't blog for a really long time, and then it feels like you can't write a post until you have something to say that's really important or profound, but all you have are those usual little bits of everyday life that just aren't as interesting or timely anymore? You try to say something like, "two months ago, we played in the snow! That's kind of what's kept me from writing until these Quick Takes today. I re-painted our dining r...

Splendor in the Home: The Kiddos
http://ourordinarylifeextraordinary.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-kiddos.html
Saturday, January 17, 2015. Just some updates on the people who have been consuming all my blogging time! Is still ever ever ever so slowly learning to read. He's doing a little better these days at imaginative play, which I feel has never come very naturally to him. Rosie. It, and have been playing store very regularly since. Recently, he was frustrated because we've stopped buying juice. Me: "Well, juice has a lot of sugar, Sly, and it kind of makes kids crazy.". First snow of the year. Maria must be m...

Splendor in the Home: A Quick and Cheap "IKEA hack" for Cloth Diaper Supplies
http://ourordinarylifeextraordinary.blogspot.com/2015/01/a-quick-and-cheap-ikea-hack-for-cloth.html
Tuesday, January 20, 2015. A Quick and Cheap "IKEA hack" for Cloth Diaper Supplies. So I found a good use for an IKEA item. But why do people call these things "hacks"? Basically, I picked something up at IKEA, and I'm using it as really convenient storage for my cloth diapering accessories.so because that's not necessarily the use that the manufacturer intended, does one get to call it a "hack"? Then last time I went to IKEA I got one of their wall-storage systems. It's been working out so perfectly.

Splendor in the Home: Cloth Diapering Part I: The “Whys"
http://ourordinarylifeextraordinary.blogspot.com/2011/01/cloth-diapering-part-i-whys.html
Friday, January 7, 2011. Cloth Diapering Part I: The “Whys". Diapers a day. And we still keep some in the diaper bag for traveling. Why we like cloth diapers:. 1 They cost less. The average cost of diapering a baby in disposables until he's potty trained is $1500-$2500 (estimates vary widely from different sources! Thing I haven’t accounted for yet is the cost of laundering the cloth diapers. Unfortunately, I don't have any clear facts on this one. Electric water heater: approx. $0.3. Of sense for us fin...

Splendor in the Home: Yarn Along
http://ourordinarylifeextraordinary.blogspot.com/2013/01/yarn-along.html
Wednesday, January 30, 2013. I'm joining Ginny for the second time ever for a yarn along. Since I only knit once in a blue moon. A couple friends cajoled me into joining a knit along with them, because all of us had been wanting to make some mittens. I'm mostly just making them so I can finally say that I know. The book I'm currently reading is What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew. Worth checking out of the library, but I would recommend against buying it new. January 30, 2013 at 10:34 PM. If it...

Splendor in the Home: Thoughts on the Permanence of Marriage
http://ourordinarylifeextraordinary.blogspot.com/2011/02/thoughts-on-permanence-of-marriage.html
Friday, February 18, 2011. Thoughts on the Permanence of Marriage. Leighton , The Painter's Honeymoon. This is the last day that Tom will be away! And the first night, I was the one to call him in the evening, and to protest when he said he needed to get off the phone and get to bed. But after a couple days, I was no longer watching the clock anxiously for the appointed time of his call, and I was the one to call an end to the conversation with, "okay, well.I should probably get going.". One day, a few m...

Splendor in the Home: Dragons
http://ourordinarylifeextraordinary.blogspot.com/2015/01/dragons.html
Sunday, January 18, 2015. We were at a thrift store the other day, and while digging through the children's book section, I came across a book called The Complete Book of Dragons. It looked like it had potential, and I was considering adding it to my pile. And then I found the awesome drawings added by some former reader to the end pages (the book used to belong to an elementary school library), and I knew I had. Check these bad boys out:. And my personal favorite:. January 18, 2015 at 5:09 PM. Because w...

Splendor in the Home: The March For Life
http://ourordinarylifeextraordinary.blogspot.com/2011/01/march-for-life.html
Monday, January 24, 2011. The March For Life. Hold him during the 4-hour ride? What if he cried the whole time. Then for the March, would he ride in a stroller (another thing I'd have to take on the bus), or would I carry him in the Baby Bjorn (talk about being sore afterwards! Then there's the freezing weather to contend with - really don't want to have my baby outside for hours. And, maybe the biggest deterrent, what happens when he gets hungry? I can't just nurse him during the March! Whoa, now. M...

Splendor in the Home: Our Projects of Late
http://ourordinarylifeextraordinary.blogspot.com/2014/11/our-projects-of-late.html
Monday, November 24, 2014. Our Projects of Late. We've had many projects going on recently, which has been taking up much of my time. As way of explanation for my almost-absence from the internet, here's a look at some things I've been doing in my "free time.". I'm still working on the baby quilt at my quilting group. I finished piecing the top. I still need to get some batting so I can sandwich it all together, quilt it, and bind it. As long as it doesn't all pull out in the wash, I'm happy with it.
