HomeMaking Beyond Maintenance: Chile Rellenos Casserole
http://www.homemakingbeyondmaintenance.blogspot.com/2013/01/chile-rellenos-casserole.html
January 30, 2013. Chile Rellenos Casserole with Grass-Fed Beef. For starters, I had to google chili vs chile, cuz I've always written 'chili', as does my Mom. I think of 'Chile' as the country. And then there's the Red Hot Chili Peppers band. So what's the verdict? The Spanish word is 'chile'. 'Chili' is the American version, having gotten started from Chili con Carne. Back to my Mom . . . she's made Chile Rellenos Casserole for years. It's thee best! My Mom's Chile Rellenos Casserole Ingredients. The ch...
HomeMaking Beyond Maintenance: Cultured Cranberry Relish and Veggie Dippers
http://www.homemakingbeyondmaintenance.blogspot.com/2012/11/cranberry-relish-and-veggie-dippers.html
November 30, 2012. Cultured Cranberry Relish and Veggie Dippers. Fermenting veggies for serving with a dip, and cranberry relish - for Thanksgiving Day. I posted earlier about wanting to ferment my typical raw cranberry relish I make for Thanksgiving. And I said I wanted to ferment the veggies for a platter with a dip. I put off fermenting them cuz I was afraid of them getting too fermented. Like would the veggies be soggy limp? So I fermented them for about 24hours. They were a hit! Cuz I'm pretty sure ...
HomeMaking Beyond Maintenance: My Story
http://www.homemakingbeyondmaintenance.blogspot.com/p/my-story_7814.html
My Pantry - I love to cook from scratch! I love to garden! This blog is my combining of three of my blogs back into one. They are still out there . . . More to My Story. Photo of our back deck by visiting Zsuzsanna Luciano. I wrote most of this post in 2013, summing up the year. But it's also My Story, as I'll add stuff making things current. Garden produce ferments - sauerkraut, dilly beans, zucchini relish, and kimchi. Unless slow cooked in the oven, and the ground beef is out of this world! Chad Rober...

HomeMaking Beyond Maintenance: 2013
http://www.homemakingbeyondmaintenance.blogspot.com/2014/01/2013.html
January 6, 2014. Photo of our back deck by visiting Zsuzsanna Luciano. Garden produce ferments - sauerkraut, dilly beans, zucchini relish, and kimchi. I got an electric smoker in November, so going to smoke a lot of sardines too. We're loving the smoker. My reasoning, finally, for getting the smoker, is all the grass-fed beef we have in the freezer - 1/2 a cow! Unless slow cooked in the oven, and the ground beef is out of this world! Thanksgiving smoked Turkey - everyone's preferred meat! Photo of our su...

Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Plant shelf with heat coils and grow lights. I'm back to blogging again. My commitments are past; my color design class, after a year, is over. I've been busy exploring various textile crafts and taking pictures but not taking time to write blogs. My plans for now? Entwined together: Potted Fig tree, tomatoes, and grapevine. Mock Orange - been babying over a year; seeds from Monte's family homestead. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Felting: dry and wet.
Karey's Overflow: February 2012
http://kareysoverflow.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 25, 2012. I taught another needlefelting class - this one in one day, rather than dividing it up into 4 evening once a week classes. Everyone is different and I love seeing the differing personalities created! I did the typical starting out with doing a flat picture so they could get used to the barbed needles. I should have taken pictures of them. Once they were well along and could fine tune them at home to their heart's content, we started on three dimensional wool sculpting. I reme...

To one of the songs. It's due out November 13 - great timing for Christmas gifts! As I've sat listening to the mixes I keep thinking of more and more people I want to give it to! Karey's Overflow: Christmas Hand-Knit Hats and Scarves and Sock Earrings
http://kareysoverflow.blogspot.com/2011/12/christmas-hand-knit-hats-and-scarves.html
Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Christmas Hand-Knit Hats and Scarves and Sock Earrings. Handknit hats for little S and E. Splarah's hand-knit hat and scarf. I took into account Splarah's dark brown hair and blue eyes for her hat design. I bought several varieties of the new ribbon looking "yarn" that pulls out into a lacy effect. It's slower knitting than normal, so it's not something I want to do a lot of, but I supplied several people, including myself some of these scarves. Felting: dry and wet.
Karey's Kitchen: Tomato Aspic ... Grandma's?
http://kareyskitchen.blogspot.com/2012/04/tomato-aspic-grandmas.html
Monday, April 30, 2012. Tomato Aspic . Grandma's? I'm researching ways to use gelatin. When first married I made some jellos using gelatin and fruit juices. I even did a coffee one. But now I'm looking for veggie ideas . and others . Anyone got ideas? I had a quart of V-8 style tomato juice from the health food store and wanted to use that. I'm using a quality gelatin. 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin (my container says 1 Tb to gel 1 C liquid, so I used 4 Tb, I'm wondering if I can use a bit less). We had ...
Karey's Kitchen: Chickens Again!
http://kareyskitchen.blogspot.com/2012/03/chickens-again.html
Friday, March 23, 2012. I have so missed having chickens. I love fresh eggs! My boys didn't like chicken chores; Heather did. When Heather got married we stopped having chickens. Monte was traveling more and the coop was far away, and I didn't want to be doing the chores in the winter. But I just ordered chicks. I'll be picking them up April 6. I am so excited! We've figured out a new spot closer to the house for a new coop. I go to bed dreaming of it's plan - improving upon our old coop. He helped me fi...

Book for years and am just now getting around to reading all the great information - lots of it! And doing more and more of it's recipes, believing it's philosophy. 2 tsp sea salt. Like I said, soak at least 7 hours or overnight, and then dry. Crispy Pepitas (4 C raw soaked pumpkin seeds with 2 Tb sea salt). February 13, 2012 at 7:47 AM. What I am ch...
Karey's Kitchen: Sourdough Crepes
http://kareyskitchen.blogspot.com/2012/02/sourdough-crepes.html
Tuesday, February 21, 2012. Once done I flip the sourdough crepe onto a plate. I like calendar days that contain stories and meal suggestions. For many years I've made crepes on Fat Tuesday/ Mardi Gras. My blog post on Mardi Gras into Lent is here. My crepe recipe is here. This year I made sourdough crepes. Actually, since I found this crepe recipe (I bought the A to Z Sourdough eBook. Starter in jar and crepe ingredients. 1 C sourdough starter. 3 Tb butter or oil. Homemaking Career
Inside The Brain of a Homemaker. The Things We Eat. Monday, December 8, 2014. Blah, Blah, Blah, I had mono. The mono test came back negative, but my IgG test said that I have had mono before. On this particular test, if you score over 21.9 then it shows that mono anti-bodies are present and therefore you have had mono. My score was 600. What? The doctor guess that I must have had if very recently. Of all the tests that they did, this was the best possible situation. Yay! In the evenings, if my husband is...
