Homeschooling Joys

Monday, March 26, 2012. Only an Option For The Wealthy? I came across this article. In Newsweek about homeschooling. What I wanted to respond to was the comments. Over and over, I saw the refrain, "Homeschooling is only a viable option for affluent, 2 parent households, because one parent needs to stay home to school the kids.". I am a single, working mother. I homeschool. I have made it work. Oh, and I am far from rich. Far, far from rich. For the rest of the day while I work. My son attends Cub Scouts,...

Homeschooling Joys: Planning

http://homeschoolingjoys.blogspot.com/2011/05/planning.html

Sunday, May 15, 2011. I'm spending some time this week planning with the kids. What do they want to do (if they know)? How is their education coming along? Where are the areas we need to work on? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Can You Homeschool As A Working Mother? I am a single, working, homeschooling mother. I'm overhauling my body, my beliefs about food, and creating a new, fit self. I am aiming for a goal weight of 135, and measurements of 36/24/36. I do believe I can achieve it!

Homeschooling Joys: July 2010

http://homeschoolingjoys.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 29, 2010. Mercedes' room is taking shape. I may be hauling things out to the lawn on Saturday morning to give away or sell! We got rid of this huge dresser that took up a whole wall of her room. My friends gave me a smaller chest of drawers, so we painted that black (Meche's favorite color is red) and tucked it into a corner of the room with a silk plant on top. I'll find a little red bowl for her crystals. Links to this post. Monday, July 26, 2010. I just need to be twins for this one.

Homeschooling Joys: August 2010

http://homeschoolingjoys.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 31, 2010. What does it cost to educate a child? I was just reading over at Alan Caruba's blog. About the high cost of public education and how poorly we as a nation have been served by the Department of Education. Evidently the NEA think the best way to solve the "educational crisis," as ever, is to throw more money at it. Where is all the money going? We do phonics, reading, writing and math daily. We do history on Tuesdays and Thursdays, science on Wednesdays and Fridays, read-aloud...

Homeschooling Joys: September 2010

http://homeschoolingjoys.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 28, 2010. This past couple of weeks I've moved my office back into my home, leaving me with both more time and more demands on that time. It's hard to juggle housekeeping, paid work, homeschooling, and recreation sometimes. However, nothing is more rewarding than having the kids laying in the living room (where my office is) working on schoolwork while I do my bookkeeping. I love being a homeschooling mom. Homeschooling Joys: Discovering the Joy of Reading

http://homeschoolingjoys.blogspot.com/2012/03/no-book-is-really-worth-reading-at-age.html

Sunday, March 18, 2012. Discovering the Joy of Reading. 8220;No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally – and often far more – worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond.” ― C.S. Lewis. The fun part is that I get to re-read them too! I have always loved those books. She's also got the Chronicles of Narnia, the Harry Potter series, the Borrowers, and several others that I loved as a child and still love as an adult. We read books. Real books! Labels: love of learning.

While homeschooling clearly outperforms public schooling on every meaningful measure, it is not for everyone, as I indicated in my last post. There are legitimate reasons why some parents might not want to homeschool. In this post, I will cover just some of the reasons why homeschooling may be right for you. You Didn’t Graduate College, or High School:. You Are a Minority:. That are likely to end ...

Train up a child in the way he should go. Proverbs 22:6. Friday, August 24, 2012. A homeschooling friend posting this article on facebook and I thought it was awesome so I am reposting it here. It's a great read, even if you are not a homeschooler! Homeschooling Just Next Door

Really, I had no idea how easy it was to study the weather. Since it is easy to observe and measure in a meaningful way it lends itself well to a hands on science unit. I found multiple ideas and activities to incorporate into our weather unit. Our Weather and Water. God's Design for Heaven and Earth). Using the sections on weather only, our weather unit lasted approximately 10 weeks. We covered topics like atmosphere, water cycle, clouds, precipitation, storms, and weather instruments.
