Preparedness and Common Sense. August 22, 2015. I want trees on the ranch. Obviously, a ranch that was described in the real estate listing as “good for nothing but sagebrush” is a challenging environment for trees. I’ve done a lot of work investigating the most hardy pioneer trees that can survive in the drier areas of Utah. But I’ll get back to pioneer trees in a moment. Continue reading Pioneer Trees. Preparedness and Common Sense. August 15, 2015. I’ve nicknamed my trail cam, the “Bunny Cam”. It is unbelievable how many rabbits are in the sagebrush by the Dove Hills. You can’t walk a straight line without stepping on one every three hundred feet. Technically, they’re jack rabbits. They seem to love it up on Dove Ranch. Yup Lots of rabbits up at the ranch. Preparedness and Common Sense. October 31, 2016. Those familiar with South America are familiar with the plight of Venezuela. Venezuela is one of the most resource-rich countries in the world. Just over a decade ago, it was the envy of the emerging markets. Venezuela elected a socialist government. The socialist government proceeded to do what socialists always do when they get power. They started taking other people’s stuff in hopes of giving away more free stuff to their voters. Of course, you can̵...

Preparedness and Common Sense. October 16, 2016. It doesn’t take a keen eye to spot the massive bur oak acorns next to regular sized acorns. Acorns make great prepper food, because most people have no idea how to make acorns edible. Almost no one looks at an acorn and thinks “food! 8221; That’s because they aren’t edible until they’ve been processed properly. Continue reading Acorns as Food. October 16, 2016. Trees | Preparedness and Common Sense

Preparedness and Common Sense. February 3, 2015. Now for a few words about pruning fruit trees. What’s a prepper without his/her fruit trees? I try to grow fruit trees that stagger their fruit production over the summer and fall months, so I don’t have to deal with all our fruit ripening at once. One of our favorite trees is our peach tree. I pruned this tree last year. Honest, I did. Continue reading Peach Tree Pruning. Canning Peaches for Food Storage. January 21, 2015.
