I bought a beautiful bunch of turnips at the farmer's market, but had no idea what I wanted to do with them. After a discussion with a friend of what I had in the house, an idea was formulated.turnip butternut squash soup. I really wasn't sure how to proceed, but the results were mind blowing. One of the best soups I have ever made. Turnip Butternut Squash Soup. 3 cups Butternut squash ; peeled and cubed.

She could not scramble an egg when she first got married, but by the time a friend came to visit in the 1970's, she was an expert. I recently talked to the friend who came for that visit, and she asked for this recipe. It was so good she remembered the meal for 40 years! Mom's Hot Chicken Salad. 1 cup Sharp cheddar ; divided. 2 cups Cooked chicken ; cubed. 1 cup Celery ; diced.

The pumpkin pie made from the fresh pumpkin had a much stronger pumpkin taste, although it did not taste cooked. The pumpkin had been pre-roasted in the oven, so it was definitely pre-cooked. I guess I have so many years of canned pumpkin under my belt, that it tasted off to me. The texture was the same in both pies. I definitely preferred the canned pumpkin pie! Fortunately it was not a strong storm, and we have received less rain than we expected. I have been able to do farm chores between the rain bands. Life on a Central Florida Homestead. Tuesday, June 7, 2016. This is what I woke up to this morning. A huge old tree fell from the winds on the back side of tropical storm Colin. The main trunk fell between two of the goose pens and stretches across the paddock to the chicken coops. Remarkably, all the geese and chickens are alive. Tried and true recipes from my collection. Sunday, January 1, 2017. Cornbread, Hoppin' John and greens are a mandatory meal in my house New Year's Day. My Hoppin John recipe is spicy, so I like a sweet cornbread with the meal. This is my standby recipe for sweet cornbread. 2/3 cup white sugar. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. 1 cup all-purpose flour. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (175 degrees C). Melt the butter in an 9 inch square pan, or a 10 inch cast iron skillet, in the oven as it preheats. 1/2 onion, diced.
