Saturday, October 10, 2009. I have an odd little batch of heroes. For a white guy. Crazy Horse. Dr Martin Luther King. John Muir. Lewis and Clark. A couple more including an old American Indian chief from Alaska. There's a wonderful story about him that came from John Muir. I'll give you a quick version in hopes that you will pick up some John Muir and read it for yourself. It's great stuff. When Muir went to Alaska to experience the glaciers, he always had Indian. They crashed a projectile into the moon today to see if the violence of impact would throw water vapor into the air so that the capsule that sent the projectile on its way could, then, crash itself into the projectile's impact point. The capsule was designed to detect any water vapor as it was descending. And that bringing it back here for disposal would be far too expensive. Even so, it's nothing more than justification.
