Librarian and Her Adventures (Without Umbrellas). Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Photograph by Jacob Walsh. At the beginning of the year, I started tagging one of my Facebook friends each day. I explained it with my first post:. Last year, Matthew Allison tagged a different Facebook friend each year. He began each post with "(Over 365 Facebook friends, one tagged each day in 2013! Hood and Hat: Things-cation
http://hoodandhat.blogspot.com/2015/03/things-cation.html
Librarian and Her Adventures (Without Umbrellas). Monday, March 30, 2015. I am in the midst of nine days away from work, but a lack of funds keeps me from doing anything more than enjoying a couple of happy hour beers at my local joint. On the first day, I made of list of Things I Would Like To Do. And maybe even like to do every day. This is what I came up with:. The visit is also a belated visit for my mom's birthday so I imagine a couple of mother-daughter outings. We will buy things! This is a Flickr...

In the approach to 40, I am keeping it simple:. Write 40 blog posts. Complete 40 (different) running routes. I am approximately 40 weeks from my 40. How awesome would it be to turn 40 and to feel as if I am the most healthy I have ever been? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Brooklyn, NY, United States. Librarian from the city that reads.

Women in American librarianship and valuing women’s work. June 26, 2010. I recently finished reading the updated edition of THE STORY OF LIBRARIES: FROM THE INVENTION OF WRITING TO THE COMPUTER AGE (Continuum, 2009) by Fred Lerner. Ashurbanipal (668-627 BCE) had a library of 1500 tablets organized by subject and edited and revised them himself. Libraries go way back! Libraries in Asia that existed before the Middle Ages or so were light years ahead of Western civilization at the time. The answer is that ...

The Rookie Manager: Team in Transition. November 6, 2013. By George Thomas (cc by-nc-nd 2.0). This week is my part-time staff member’s penultimate week. He’s still going to be with the library, he’ll still be working with teens, and he’ll likely still be working out of our branch, but he’s moving into a new role as a fellow in BridgeUp. An intensive mentoring and college-prep program. I am really psyched for him, I’m really psyched for the kids he’ll work with (he’s going to be. Talk about distribution o...

Adventures in search of places to be. Happy president’s day! January 5, 2010. I just booked a ticket to Portland, OR, for a four-day weekend ten days from now. In the original plan I wasn’t supposed to go until March, when Karen K., librarian extraordinare, was going to be there for a conference. But her trip got canceled and then Midwest friends started planning their own trip, and did I want to come along? Unexpectedly, I did. This entry was posted in uncategorized. Happy president’s day! The Librarian’s Oath. May 9, 2010. Last spring during my Seminar on Intellectual Freedom, Shellie and I were discussing how librarianship doesn’t have a professional organization that controls licenses to practice and that while we have the ALA Code of Ethics. And the Library Bill of Rights. And the Freedom to Read Statement. And lots of other statements. From the Office of Intellectual Freedom. There isn’t an oath we have to take to become librarians like (for example) doctors do. I swear by Seshat.
