The Beast's Lair: A Stroll in the Woods/Kidnap the Tax Man
http://beast44a.blogspot.com/2016/07/a-stroll-in-woodskidnap-tax-man.html
Adventures in Tabletop Wargaming. Sunday, July 10, 2016. A Stroll in the Woods/Kidnap the Tax Man. Played another game in the Campaign for the Darkened Wood, this one between two human factions - the royal troops of King Richard and the rebels led by former military officer, now insurgent leader, Robb. Robb and his men take refuge in the darkened wood, but periodically venture out from their home base and haven to attack King Richard's men and symbols of power. Here's an aerial view with some perspective:.

The BigRedBatCave: Cremona 69 AD at Salute
http://bigredbat.blogspot.com/2015/05/cremona-69-ad-at-salute.html
Thursday, 7 May 2015. Cremona 69 AD at Salute. Since Salute I have been frantically busy and haven't had a chance to post any of the photos of the game. What follows is a fairly random selection of pictures of the game taken by Ian Notter (long shots) and Alan Daniels (closeups). First there are some shots of the game before the doors opened:. View down the table. Othonian gladiators row towards the pontoon bridge. XXI Rapax observe the big cavalry melee. A slave fleeing the fighting, with grapes! Gladia...

The BigRedBatCave: January 2015
http://bigredbat.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Friday, 30 January 2015. I'm hurrying to finish a new Roman army for the first To the Strongest! Tournament on Saturday week. I'm using the repaint eBay minis technique that I described in Wargames Soldiers Strategy. The knack is to get the minis from 3 or 4 different painters to match- retouching, ink washes and muddying up the shields does a good job of this. It is composed of the smaller Perry minis, with a few Warlord and First Corp for variety. The bases are Impetus-stylee. Links to this post. The R...

The BigRedBatCave: Crimson and bronze II
http://bigredbat.blogspot.com/2015/05/crimson-and-bronze-ii.html
Wednesday, 6 May 2015. Crimson and bronze II. I seem to have painted/repainted an entire unit of 27 Spartans in six nights, which is about as fast as I have ever manages. It was a lot of fun and so I've decided to paint enough to round out one more unit, and some lights. Curiously not one but both of the part-painted units I purchased on eBay had the Spartan lambdas painted upside down! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The BigRedBatCave: August 2014
http://bigredbat.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Monday, 25 August 2014. These are the last of the figures from Craig Davey, which I've supplemented and based to form the greater part of a Late Roman legion. The Secunda Britannica. Or the Secundani) were the descendants of the old British II Augusta legion that had been based in Caerleon for much of its history. In the Late Roman period they may have been withdrawn to Gaul to deal with the various crises on the frontiers. Links to this post. Saturday, 23 August 2014. Craig did a lovely job on these, in...

Baron's Blog: May 2015

Friday, May 29, 2015. To the Strongest: Roman Revenge. Morgah-Khan and his Orcish horde emerged through the strange mist into an even stranger world. It was too bright and too hot. But the land was ripe for pillage. For 2 weeks they lay waste to the land, until on the 15th day, they came upon another human army. It seemed much like the first they had crushed, so Morgah-Khan had no cares. Labels: To the Strongest. Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Squeezing in a weekend game. My oldest wargaming buddy, Lead Addic.

Baron's Blog: April 2015
http://baronvonj.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 30, 2015. My lead pile runs deep. I've been enjoying Lion Rampant quite a bit. There's news that a Fantasy version is one it's way, "Dragon Rampant", but I can't wait that long. The forces of Chaos are too strong. These boys are getting a coat of paint (in suitable Chaotic colors) and will join the banner Vorak the Vile in his conquest of my table. They'll be treated as Foot Men-at-Arms. I've got mounted forces coming, too. Friday, April 24, 2015. Five Core: Battle for Meridian Prime Pt IV.

http://baronvonj.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 26, 2014. Had a chance to play with John from Curio Clashes. And his awesome WW2 models and terrain. This would be my 3rd or 4th time playing Bolt Action and it still isn't making me get that "this is a great game! Feeling. I get a distinct Warhammer 20k taste in my mouth despite great toys and terrain. But, I do have some excitement. Lion Rampant. Showed up in the mail yesterday. I am a big fan of Dan Mersey's earlier book Dux Bellorum. Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Just me an Bill.

Baron's Blog: Beat Down at the Bend - A Campaign for the Kingdom game
http://baronvonj.blogspot.com/2015/04/beat-down-at-bend-campaign-for-kingdom.html
Friday, April 10, 2015. Beat Down at the Bend - A Campaign for the Kingdom game. With Horace dead, the field was wide open for claiming the throne. Roderick was the next logical choice, Lionel, Baron of Stonekeep, thought Roderick a poor choice. Lionel was one of the few remaining lords since the beginning of the conflict to still have his head. He intended to keep it that way. Lionel leads his men forward. The forces were evenly matched, and both felt God was one their side. In the thick of it. But the ...
