...from my tiny yellow house

From my tiny yellow house. Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Hard Corps: Hauling Water, Bucket Showers, and Hand-Washing Clothes. Basically anywhere you go in the world water scarcity is a problem, though often an unnoticeable one. But many places you go in the developing world water scarcity will be both present and obvious. When the rains leave and the summer season comes to Nicaragua, the result is dried up riverbeds and empty wells with nothing but dusty brown fields for a backdrop. The numbers I’ve see...

...from my tiny yellow house: Soccer In The Campo

http://hoopinnica.blogspot.com/2011/09/soccer-in-campo.html

From my tiny yellow house. Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Soccer In The Campo. I tagged along with the youth soccer teams on a trip out of town. I went to watch them play and to kick the ball around a little because I don’t get to do that as much as I’d like. There were two teams and they were planning on playing each other. We had to leave town because our soccer field is mostly underwater due to the flooding of the lake. The older teams, for the most part, can handle playing in the shallow end of the lake.

http://hoopinnica.blogspot.com/2011/07/its-hard-to-say-which-noise-will-force.html

From my tiny yellow house. Monday, July 11, 2011. It’s hard to say which noise will force you out of bed in the morning but it’s safe to say that sound will get you before sun. And everyone who has come to visit me in my site has made roughly the same pre-dawn assessment: it’s really goddamn loud here in the morning. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). ...from my tiny yellow house: Zancudos

http://hoopinnica.blogspot.com/2011/11/zancudos.html

From my tiny yellow house. Tuesday, November 1, 2011. When not fighting off swarms of chayules, we keep our hands busy by slapping the mosquitoes buzzing around our ankles. And since the houses generally have no screens and tons of gaps and cracks and holes in the walls, there’s no keeping them out. Indoors is still outdoors. They’re around all the time but at dusk and dawn they’re absolutely unrelenting. I disappear behind the mesh cloth and the mosquitoes are left dazzled. The first chemical is known a...

standing in awe: I just ate chalupas on a mini-bus in Panama...

http://shonarsmith.blogspot.com/2012/05/i-just-ate-chalupas-on-mini-bus-in.html

I just ate chalupas on a mini-bus in Panama. Let me ‘splain. It all started this afternoon when I decided to get Taco Bell for dinner (due to cravings for the last several months). I wasn’t too worried about getting there early because 1. I wasn’t very hungry and 2. I figured it would be just a quick cab ride or walk there and back. However, I remembered that there is a free transfer from the Albrook Mall to my hotel at around 8 o’clock. I said ok and headed out to find a cab. I looked around a little an...

New attempt at blogging. Because I love reading so much and want everyone to feel the same I started a girls group. It consists of (now) six 6. After quickly getting dressed and finishing the folding I was online and looking at a report of a 7.9 quake in Costa Rica. There wasn’t much other information, but I was told that it was already all over the news. It could be felt as far north as Managua! Upcoming post: Crotchet projects! Books read over “the summer”:. A Wrinkle in Time. The Tombs of Atuan.

Oh long lost blog. And long lost world. I feel like I´ve been so disconnected from everything lately. http://shonarsmith.blogspot.com/2014/04/november-3-2013-soas-per-usual-shona-i.html

November 3, 2013. So…as per usual “Shona” I just spent a significant portion of the evening on good ‘ol “Face.” Of course it involved “stalking,” but this time I was “stalking” myself! Just found a few old messages in my "other" message box. A couple were a four months old.oops. I guess I should check my facebook on a computer a little more often. Little did I know that wouldn’t be the first time. Oh, “other” box! Ps The new car runs like a dream. Little did I know that was only a taste of what was to co...

Bet It Hit Rim. Thursday, April 27, 2017. Hawks University: A Vocational School for Bench Players. As in the first two games, the biggest issue for the Hawks is a lack of talent on the roster. A well-executed offensive possession that ends with, say, an open Kent Bazemore three-point attempt or Ersan Ilyasova having to finish at the rim on the move doesn't have the expected value that leads to road playoff wins. Not to pick on Bazemore and Ilyasova exclusively. The Hawks simply lack the talent to put fiv...
