Royal Hunt of the Sun: December 2007
http://derekjulie.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Royal Hunt of the Sun. Name taken from play by Peter Shaffer about the Incas and adapted for our travels. Tuesday, 25 December 2007. Red, Red Wine. We decided to head out and see the city, but being a Sunday and 1pm we were faced with very wide (for earthquakes,) treelined, yet deserted streets. Rumour has is that the Mendozian´s take their siesta VERY seriously, literally hibernating from 1 - 6pm, so we followed suit and returned later to do some last minute Christmas shopping. We had a fabulous group o...

Royal Hunt of the Sun. Name taken from play by Peter Shaffer about the Incas and adapted for our travels. Sunday, 31 August 2008. Dubai - welcome to Cuckoo Land! It was fantastic that we arrived on a Friday, which is the first day of the weekend in Dubai and meant that we could see Kenton and Vera. Any preconceived ideas that we had about Dubai were blown out of the water! These are just a couple of the highlights that sit amongst a myriad of other hotels, apartments, office blocks, so hopefully you can ...

Royal Hunt of the Sun: Hoi An and Hue
http://derekjulie.blogspot.com/2008/07/hoi-and-hue.html
Royal Hunt of the Sun. Name taken from play by Peter Shaffer about the Incas and adapted for our travels. Friday, 18 July 2008. Hoi An and Hue. Our good run of simply arriving at a town and looking for a place to stay continued as we stayed at a gem right where the bus dropped us off. After taking our first of about 4 showers per day and gathering a bit of shopping advice we stepped boldly stepped where about another million tourists have gone before, the tailors of Hoi An. Interesting note: the price of...

Royal Hunt of the Sun. Name taken from play by Peter Shaffer about the Incas and adapted for our travels. Saturday, 31 May 2008. Railei Beach, Kho Phi Phi (or Poo Poo), Patong and KL. So we were off again, waking up at the crack of dawn to head to Railei Beach and this is when we realised travel in Thailand is very time consuming despite the distances being small, one just needs to be very patient! Railei turned out to be everything and more. (M&D you guys really found a gem). We visited (together with a...

Royal Hunt of the Sun: April 2008
http://derekjulie.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Royal Hunt of the Sun. Name taken from play by Peter Shaffer about the Incas and adapted for our travels. Tuesday, 29 April 2008. Iguazu and the final days in Buenos Aires. Having left Argentina 2 months previously we had slipped into a false sense of security having become accustomed to being able to pick and choose where we were going to stay when arriving in a town…boy things were about to change! A farmer's protest in Argentina (a result of the government imposing a 10% export tax on soy, beef and ma...

Royal Hunt of the Sun. Name taken from play by Peter Shaffer about the Incas and adapted for our travels. Wednesday, 28 November 2007. El Fin del Mundo. We needed to cover km´s in as short a time as possible so flying the 2 400km´s was our choice and now we are at the end of the world.quite literally. Ushuaia is the most southerly city in the world and where (before the world was round) insurance companies would pay out totally if you got shipwrecked here. 3 Attending a local Rodeo with Gauchos et al.

Royal Hunt of the Sun. Name taken from play by Peter Shaffer about the Incas and adapted for our travels. Sunday, 16 March 2008. The next day we headed off to explore and got caught in the most hectic tropical storm. Soaked to the bone we headed to the airport definitely not sad to see the back of Guayaquil. Fortunately we didn’t have to pay the Lima tax, and we arrived early the next day in Sao Paolo. We did however manage to drag ourselves off the beach and head up to the famous sights of Pão de Açúcar.

Royal Hunt of the Sun. Name taken from play by Peter Shaffer about the Incas and adapted for our travels. Wednesday, 27 August 2008. After all the hype and build up to the games we were chomping at the bit on our arrival at Beijing International. We did not arrive at the famed T3, which is the largest column-less building in the world and capable of processing vast masses of people which was needed on our way out leaving the day after the closing ceremony! From Beijing and the Olympics. The facilities we...
