In September 2009 our lives changed forever Chloe's funny turn was so bad that we called an ambulance and she was admitted to Tameside General Hospital for observation. The whole family were very distressed as we'd never seen an episode so bad and Chloe was totally distraught. Dr Massarano introduced us to the Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse Carolyn Taylor and they informed us of the care Chloe would need and how to administer the neccesary medication. Epilepsy is the most common neurological condition. It affects around 1 in 200 children in the UK. Epilepsy is currently defined as a tendency to have recurrent seizures (sometimes called fits). A seizure is caused by a sudden burst of excess electrical activity in the brain, causing a temporary disruption in the normal message passing between brain cells. If your child is having seizures in their sleep - Hope is offering grants to Hope-Tameside registered families to purchase the anti-suffocation pillows. Families that want a pillow, which can potentially reduce the risk of SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death In Epilepsy) should contact Kelly Wray (Chairperson) on 07999 360 278 or Carolyn Taylor (Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse). It's your opportunity to build relationships, share and gain knowledge from others who may or had similar experiences to you. It can help to build your confidence and provide mutual support through contact with other parents. There are no meetings planned - please check back soon.
