Wednesday, 29 July 2015. Tree Planting - Part 4. Soon the next training session arrived . teaching the men how to plant each of the two seeds in the soil. It was a bit complicated - as the two seeds were to be planted at different depths. Thankfully, the two seeds were different sizes: so the small seed got planted by making a small indent in the sand with one's small finger - and the larger seed got planted at the depth of the first knuckle of the pointer finger. It was a good day of training again - an...

Hopf in Niger: 10/01/2013 - 11/01/2013

http://hopfinniger.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, 31 October 2013. 8230; and the Marriage Proposal! While in the village on Sunday to do a census of the local children, my guides and I entered a small Djarma village located down the hill (“mountain” in Fulfulde! From the chief’s land. I have been in this village a few times, so I am getting to know these villagers – a grouping of about 10 huts. It appears the Djarma like to tease each other as much as the Fulani! But, I will keep my eye out for you, in case I meet a white lady! As my guide int...

Wednesday, 10 December 2014. Rainy Season "Cow Camp". It has been a long time since I blogged . the internet has been up and down lately and posting pictures is a challenge, but today, I am going to give it a try! As it has been a few months - there are so many stories to catch up on! I have seen and have had a lot of new cultural experiences during the rainy season. As I've not seen this done since I arrived in 2008, I was naturally curious - "how often do you do this? Mostly, from what I understood, th...

Tuesday, 19 November 2013. Malaria …. Be Gone! Well, in May 2012, this would be the sentiment behind the malaria training and mosquito net distribution in my village. The fight against malaria …. it is the number 1 cause of death in Niger! With the children and the elderly being the most vulnerable population to this statistic! Lofty goal … the mosquito is a persistent little entity here … but no less sincere of a goal in my heart! The malaria training consisted of four parts:. 2 signs/symptoms of malaria.

Hopf in Niger: Tree Planting - Part 1

http://hopfinniger.blogspot.com/2015/04/tree-planting-part-1.html

Thursday, 23 April 2015. Tree Planting - Part 1. Today being Earth Day - I thought it appropriate to catch my blog up to date on the things that I have been doing these last few months! I have two major projects that I am coordinating in the village during this dry season - prime teaching time when the men are not in the fields! The first of which is tree planting! I am teaching the villagers about 3 different types of tress - all of which will bring different benefits to the families of these men. This ...

Unquenchable Songs and Endless Praise

http://ardententhusiast.blogspot.com/2009/12/seven-questions.html

Jeudi 31 décembre 2009. Inspired by this series of reflective questions. On Michael Hyatt's blog, here are some of my responses to what life in 2009 has looked like for me:. 1 If the last year were a movie of your life, what would the genre be? Honestly, I don't know the answer to this (not a good start! But I'd perhaps say one of those long-drawn out British miniseries where things move slowly and the conclusion is yet to come (for me, anyway). Where did you let yourself down? I'm disappointed that I wa...

Unquenchable Songs and Endless Praise

http://ardententhusiast.blogspot.com/2009/12/book-report.html

Jeudi 17 décembre 2009. It's taken three years but I can now happily report that I've met my goal. Of reading 100 books in a year, and have surpassed it as well! I'm going to continue recording the titles that I've read although I'm not sure if I'll subject myself to the same pressure of needing to read a certain number of books for next year. Overall, it's been a fun journey and it's been neat to see what my reading habits look like. This past year, I've read:. 35 fiction books and 69 non-fiction books.

http://ardententhusiast.blogspot.com/2010/12/half-year-after.html

Vendredi 10 décembre 2010. Half a year after. I have to admit that this blog has definitely fallen by the wayside; however, I haven't minded the lapse too much. Life has been very good since the last time I wrote on here and I've been able to experience a lot of wonderful things! Since I don't envision myself keeping this blog too updated, I'd like to wish anyone who randomly pops by here a merry Christmas filled with the joy and wonder of Christ's arrival! Unquenchable Songs and Endless Praise

http://ardententhusiast.blogspot.com/2010/01/undefinable.html

Dimanche 3 janvier 2010. So the first unnamed decade of the 2000s has passed and now we head into another one (would it be called the "10s" or the "2010s"? I'm excited for what will come this year and a little nervous that I won't end up doing as much as I will want to. While I am forming a list of goals in my mind, I hesitate to voice them just yet as I don't want them to be mere resolutions that I'll quickly give up weeks into it. So perhaps this will be my first step in 2010 :). La La Laura Land.

Samedi 27 décembre 2008. As for 2009, here are a few books I'm hoping to dive into:. The Supremacy of Christ in a Postmodern World by John Piper. Just Jane by Nancy Moser. Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald Whitney. Throw Out Fifty Things by Gail Blanke. God's Continent by Philip Jenkins. Any suggestions for others I can add to my list? http://ardententhusiast.blogspot.com/2010/06/season-later.html

Vendredi 4 juin 2010. Goodness, it's been quite a few months since I've posted on here; I think the commenting fiasco deterred me from writing anything until I figured it out (which I never did, as Andrew has pointed out to me). In any case, it seems like people can actually comment on Echo, so that's a strange and unexpected surprise. One of the saddest things about this past year so far is that I haven't picked up a book in so long - what a shock to my system! Libellés : everyday life. Unquenchable Son...

http://ardententhusiast.blogspot.com/2010/02/comment-confusion.html

Mercredi 3 février 2010. I'm none too pleased to read that Haloscan. Another way of looking at it is that since I've already lost the comments from 2003-2006, losing the ones from 2006-2009 shouldn't be a big deal, right? Posted by Neely @ 11:53 PM. Hopfions in modern physics. Hopfion description

Hopf solitons in modern mathematical physics. What does hopfion mean? A hopfion (or Hopf soliton) is a topological soliton which is classified by the Hopf invariant and has non-zero Hopf index. In theory, the physical nature of hopfions may be different. First of all, the vector field (1.1). Itself may be normalized physical quantity: (1.2). Like the normalized magnetization vector in ferromagnetism. Second, the lines of preimages (1.3). Of vectors may correspond to physical quantities: (1.4).
